Participate in a Study on Your Experience on Florida’s Registry

A doctoral research study through the School of Psychology at Fielding Graduate University is seeking participants to explore the lived experiences of individuals on Florida’s Sexual Offender Registry.

The purpose of this study is to better understand how being on the registry impacts daily life. Participation involves taking part in a confidential interview that will last approximately 60 minutes. Participation is completely voluntary, and participants can withdraw at any time. Participants will be compensated $50 for their participation. No identifying information will be included in the final report. The information you provide will be kept strictly confidential and will not impact your legal status, parole or probation requirements, or access to services.

Individuals who have been on the Florida Sexual Offender Registry for at least six months and are at least 19 years old are eligible to participate. This study has been reviewed and approved by the Fielding Graduate University Institutional Review Board (IRB).

If you or someone you know is interested in participating or would like more information, please contact Caroline Cortright at [email protected]

Thank you for considering this opportunity to share your experiences and contribute to research that aims to increase understanding and awareness of the challenges faced by individuals on the registry.

Thank you to ACSOL for posting this announcement.

Even though it’s not supposed to be punishment it effects some more than others. I was going to marry a lady in 2005 after finishing s.o. therapy, so when the registry started she said no!. After about a year she went on her way to a different life. Since the registry started I have been called names from neighbors, I’ve been looked down on from others around me. I have been sexually assaulted from 3 different professional doctors starting in 1998!. None being prosecuted. I have been depressed and anxious more than I was before the registry started, it has been on going most of my life for one thing or the other and with numerous panic attacks. I worry everyday someone will shoot me or stab me everywhere I go. So yea that is a short version of how the registry has affected me!!.

I’ve been here for 15 years and so far I have had no problems. my house is owned by me which was purchased 11/2011. it’s a rural area. have two neighbors and no problems with them yet. It’s definitely getting worse and thank the Lord that FAC keeps me informed about changes.
This last one about beaches, lakes, and pools. having to watch where you go and hope that I haven’t crossed into an area that just happens to be off limits. The way I am understanding some of these new restrictions even if you happen to drive by one of those places you are subject to arrest.
I have always liked Florida and don’t ever want to leave here to live anywhere else. I hate to think that the way things are going that I will eventually be afraid to leave my house and become a prisoner in my own home under fear of being in the wrong place.

So I asked to be interviewed. I think there is alot of problems with being on a registry. I don’t see Murderers or habitual offenders on a registry why should we?
