Petition to Declare Public Sex Offender Registration in the United States a Violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)
Today, approximately one-million people in the United States are forced to register as “sex offenders”. The label leads to stigmatization, separation from society, loss of employment, loss of housing and even exposure to violence at the hands of vigilantes. The stigmatization extends to the spouses, children, family, friends, employer and anyone that associates with the registrant. The isolation, shame, stress, fear of violence, loss of income and other psychological effects are experienced by the entire household.
My son was solicited by a police detective in 1997, via computer. Because the detective was acting as the minor, he would not agree to pre-trial intervention. The Judge withheld adjudication, which is a formal finding of guilt) My son is mentally challenged and as a single mother I could not afford a good attorney, so he was given a public defender. He was given 2 years probation finished in 1 year, however, he and the rest of our family have been terrorized ever since he was put on the sex offender list. 20 years ago. Please change this outlandish law. I’m afraid for him when I’m no longer on this earth to protect him.. He lives with me and has never been in trouble since… Please help us…
