Police questioning registrants in Jacksonville

Here is an interesting real-life experiment.

Today’s Jacksonville news reports that police are questioning registrants in Jacksonville after the tragic sexual assault of an 8 year old. The story reports that there are over 100 registered sex offenders living within 2 miles of the assault.

FAC will stay on top of this story to see whether:

1) The registry helped or hampered the investigation into the assailant.

2) The assault was committed by someone on the registry or someone not registered.

3) The proximity of the residency of the assailant and the site of the assault.

As bad as they have made this sound there has to be some kind of DNA at the scene.. And as we know every registrant has there DNA on file, so if it is a registrant it should come out fast. But the bottom line is this proves that only parents and guardians can prevent these tragic happenings not a public registry. All the registry does is give a false sense of security. It seems like every week in this same county you hear of a cop or ex cop arrested for child porn or a teacher accused of child mollesting. People need to watch there kids around everyone not just registrants.
I personally have to register the rest of my life because a 17 year old girl sent me a top less picture In a email., so as soon as I opened email there it was but the law states that put me I. Possession of child porn immediately . Even tho thru forensics they could see I deleted it and never went back to it. But people don’t understand they just hear I’m a sex offender . If society understood the people they put on the registry maybe it would change. Maybe one day!

      Additionally:

It’s funny that we have served our sentences and many of us are no longer on probation (read: no longer under supervision, right? )

FL Statute states, “The Florida Legislature has determined that the requirement to register is not part of the sentence and is not punitive, however, it is a community service.”

Raise your hand if you do not wish to do any community service!

      My hand is raised.
