President Donald J. Trump Proclaims April 2018 as Second Chance Month

From Whitehouse.gov

During Second Chance Month, our Nation emphasizes the need to prevent crime on our streets, to respect the rule of law by prosecuting individuals who break the law, and to provide opportunities for people with criminal records to earn an honest second chance. Affording those who have been held accountable for their crimes an opportunity to become contributing members of society is a critical element of criminal justice that can reduce our crime rates and prison populations, decrease burdens to the American taxpayer, and make America safer.

Yes, this is laughable to all of us who are RSOs. I wish there was a way to contact the White House and say “OK then, put your money where your mouth is and help me and my other 900,000 friends out all over this country.”

would have liked to have seen him give tax breaks to those that hired RSO’s or people recently released from prison
i agree that there was nothing said on how to help but he at least made the effort to say something

I was reading this and Zzzzzz. Another president with sincere sounding words, but no real action. Just like Obama with his second chance criminal justice reforms and then he goes and signs IML.

Trump says : ” and providing those who have completed their sentences an opportunity for an honest second chance. ”

Not as long as Smith V. Doe is still alive and kicking. Because I , like many over 20,000+ RC Floridians have long completed their sentences and still suffering because of these ” regulatory punitive ” laws with more added annually.

A real change would be ridding the registry all together and erasing ones criminal record automatically ( as well as 100% of their civil rights restored ) after they have completed their sentence and only available to law enforcement when/if needed. Not the public, not employers, not housing committees – Nobody!…That and that alone would provide a real and honest second chance opportunity to any American individual/citizen.

Not picking sides here (fan of Obama disclosure) and hugely disappointed with him signing IML, but to be impartial he did not take on second chance initiatives so can’t compare. Hate to admit, but at least Trump signed something. Whether that moves the ball our way is yet to be determined but I can’t help feel it has to have some residue affect on Republicans that may have thought about saying yes to the voting initiative coming up.

I agree, it’s a positive step forward. How could Trump know our situation. He is giving a blanket second chance. He didn’t say exept sex offenders. Everyone stop being so negative and look at this as a first step. Obama killed us with his decision.

Not a big fan but have to admit he could easily not have signed this. So, kudos to him! Maybe Scott gets the memo, gets on board and pulls back from appealing the judges decision (yeah right!).

Scott is on his way out. He is not going to care and rightfully so. Just like Obama was on his way out when he signed IML. Will not affect either men. Sign and be gone, then just deal with it with the next moron running the show.

Reich Stadt may soon be out of office, but if he runs for Ander Crenshaw’s seat in the US House of Reps, he will probably win it.
