These laws do nothing, weather one lives 1,000 ft or 10,000 ft we have here in Amerrica something called a car, what’s next you all going to take there vehicles away from every.sex offender or predator in the county? Remember the old cliche one doesn’t sh** in his own back yard. This is just a attempt by the politicians to make it like like there doing something about it so they may keep there khushi 6 figure jobs, If they want to do something, how about concentrate on the children being exploited on the internet every day. Now you get the picture, Putnum County is so concern of our children, they want to charge for offenders and predators to follow what is law. Thanks for your concern Putnum County.
So if your not on probation, a rso is not allowed to visit beaches by themselves, with their children or family?
Not allowed by whom? Where are you seeing that?
When I was on S.O probation almost 20 years ago I was allowed at the beach, but a lot has changed since then. Even now, off of probation, I can go to the beach.
I’ve made up my mind that I am leaving Florida next spring and going back to my home state of Massachusetts. Florida had made it hard to try and lead a good life, and this just may be the straw that broke the camel’s back. I really haven’t had any problems with the law here in Hernando County, but there’s a new detective (don’t know his name) who has violating a lot of registered offenders lately. I miss Detective Breedlove who passed away due to Covid. He was actually one of the good ones who always told me that I needed a different lawyer, and even gave me the names of a few. But, I live on a fixed income and couldn’t afford it. I’ll miss the warm weather of the Florida winters, but passing that up will be worth it.
Send in the CALVARY!!!! F.A.C is on it.
I will keep this in my prayers for those who are affected by this. It also affects loved ones as well by often not being able to live with them because of the ordinances that separate families and tear them apart.
This is not law; this is certified hate, pushing people into homelessness.
The people agreeing to this makes me vomit. Disgusting.
If I can assist in anyway, as an out of stater wanting to visit or live in the putnam arealet me know
I wish the Legal challenge was for Brevard County. The registry restrictions are just as bad. You cannot even rent a Hotel for a night in Bervard county or go to the Beach. You can only drive through. I know that a lawsuit was filed before in Brevard. But, I do not understand why the only thing that came out of it was a payout to the plaintiffs and the ordinance was amended to create an exception allowing RSO to attend commission meetings. Why did they not challenge the residency restrictions? How, if an offense was in 1991, is it constitutional for an Ordinance created in 2006 to be retroactive back to 1991? Is that not Ex post facto violation? I just do not understand.
Of course Brevard can be challenged. It’s just that Brevard needs the same thing that Putnam needs: plaintiffs!
Even a win in Putnam might create good precedent for Brevard.
That’s a complicated question, but there are a few points to remember when it comes to lawsuits:
1. You need someone willing to be the plaintiff, and that person must be directly impacted by the law. Of course, you need money, too.
2. I think it would be easier to sue in a smaller county than a larger county. The bigger the county, the more money and the better the lawyers they have. Putnam seems pretty podunk compared to Broward County.
3. Any lawsuit will likely have to overcome every past ruling in favor of residency restrictions as well as the old Smith v Doe argument.
