REASON: Civil Commitment of Sex Offenders Pretends Prisoners Are Patients

So far the civil commitment program has incarcerated Whipple three times longer than the prison sentence he served. The hunger strike, which involved a dozen of the program’s 737 “clients,” ended last week after state officials promised meetings where protesters could air their complaint that there is no “clear pathway” to release from their indefinite confinement. But those meetings surely will not resolve the fundamental problem with programs like this, which evade constitutional constraints by pretending that prisoners are patients.

I’m hearing you! I’m here. Your right. They told my son Shut up. And when he don’t put enough content in his homework they Say add more. And when he speaks it they say you talk to much!. Your not getting out anytime soon so go sit down I’ll come back around. Whose watching these Clinicians. Not the doctors. DCF wants them there. Check bank stuff. And desantes does like this place. He brags about it. So don’t write him. Useless man. Tax write offs for rich people. Looks good in thiere yearly tax portfolia and they are reason it’s labeled a hospital. Us needs to shut these down. Making money off people y’all. Think about it it’s awful. Oh and did y’all know my son’s filled out a question aire about things he’s tried. Yes or no occasionally. Now he’s a Meth and crack druggie. And needs AA alcoholic. My uncle Lewis ran a group in Florida. Real group. He was a vet. And if he were alive he’d be writing someone about saying this about his nephew for sure!. Oh and now he’s Vocationally illiterate y’all. Lol. Graduated with honors in Math and Science from a charter school of all places. Said taking a computer class when he won’t be able to use one when he gets out is senseless. Now he’s ESE retarded. Wonder how much money they trying to get for him now. I’m writing fraud places medicaid and all of them. Telling on them omg. It’s clinicians doing it. But DCF in charge is who is telling them to do this. Y’all speak up.

Noone cares about Sex offenders. I was told by my son’s now public defender. He also didn’t let us rebutt at his trial. Said using science. Look how that worked out. The program is not a program. It’s prison. Locking doors. Taking roll call. Ordering canteen. They have to buy stuff. It’s not given. Fake meat. Takes a week to see a Doctor?. No doctor there every day. No place to sit outside. No chess games. No body cares. This a private run facility being prejudice against a group of people that got in trouble. They don’t keep murders in jail after thiere time. Or drug runners. Or abusers. It’s like Germany. Did the Jews. Prejudice should not be allowed for a certain group. Of people who served thiere time. Theh are breaking statues. Ignoring pkee deals. A signed contract. To extend prison sentences. And it’d wrong. Lord. It’s wrong. Nobody that got probation and didn’t hurt anyone no victims belongs in there. It’s not a hospital. Y’all. Quit calling it that. It is prison. Release them. To home. Probation is a contract. States breaking it. Plea deals are not being abided by.

Did you know they hold people who are not violent. The charges read that. But half these men are not. They are sent there on pretense. Also clinicians. Not Doctors are keeping these guys in there longer because of monies. Private run by donations. And writing Vocational illiterate. To make them take computer class. Or Meth or drug and alcohol user. To make them make thiere file look better. My son answered a questiare he was told to fill out saying have you ever tried any of this. He said yes he did. But don’t use that stuff. They labeled him a alcoholic. And drug abuser. Can you imagine. It’s out of control. When I called legal she said. Well it don’t matter he’s committed. Like it was ok cause he’s committed. Like he won’t tell. Well I am. I’m his parent. And I’m committed to seeing this place Treats and release like it says. But constitution rights are being taken when they lie to keep people in this place. No victims no DNa don’t mean anything. DCF says she don’t FEEL he’s been in there long enough. In case he gets in trouble again. Is what she said. No victims. You tell me what’s going on.

With the New Florida compliance placed on me after the fact every couple years. I’m headed to being a old age patient keeper alive in jail in my old age because the State made it impossible to take care of myself

Your piece: REASON: Civil Commitment of Sex Offenders Pretends Prisoners Are Patients, was welcome and interesting. What is not welcome, and is very interesting, is that you completely ignore the men who are languishing at the Florida Civil Commitment Center in Arcadia, Florida, where the state houses its sexually violent predators who have been sent there post prison for “treatment.” They too were on a hunger strike recently. About four dorms refused their meals recently, to protest that Wellpath Recovery Solutions, LLC., the Corporation who operates the Center for DCF, is was planning to confiscate personal property that they had been allowed to purchase and possess, i.e., Xboxes etc. The Hunger Strike shook up the Corp enough where they have set aside their confiscation plans. Why did you not print something about this? Why do you never print anything about the men being held at FCCC, for life, after having served their criminal sentences. The pandemic at FCCC has been devastating, yet you print nothing about their plight over that. Why do you ignore the largest prison for post prison sex offenders in the country? Right in your backyard, and you ignore them. This is indefensible for a publication that advertises itself as you do. You have hundreds of men at FCCC being housed-and not treated-many of whom are abused, refused treatment, both medical and psychiatric, who’s rights are being crushed; it goes on and on. Bruce Plesser, Esquire, and myself, have been demanding changes there and have filed numerous complaints and lawsuits. It would make a lot of sense if you were to take a look and do something about FCCC. Shame on you for ignoring Florida’s own involuntary committed men yet write of other such places around the country. Do something.

Thanks for that info. It is a good thing to print the article-that was not my argument. But-the Florida Civil Commitment Center, in our own backyard, is in the throes of a series of unconstitutional, dangerous and virus spreading changes there. We (Bruce Plesser, Esq.) are in the process of plugging into your great publication to assist in the ways that we can, to spread the word about the needless suffering and outrageous acts and omissions by Wellpath Recovery Solutions, LLC (Corp that operates FCCC) and to share litigation we are bringing to address the issues, and litigation that is presently open, and to assist the publication in any way we can.

Say it loud Damian. And tell about them walking around pulling cords out the wall. Tossing belongings. Break stuff. Broke my son’s clippers I bought. Put them back in his bin. Y’all this is a extended stay. I don’t feel you’ve been in there long enough. DCF said to my son. 3 years there 6 prison. She needs to be corrected. Put in her place. Too much control goes to people’s heads. She’s a man hater.
