Reason: Florida Is Creating a New Sex Offender Registry Just for Prostitution Customers
Florida lawmakers just voted to create a public registry of people caught paying or attempting to pay for sex.
After an initial defeat in the Florida House of Representatives, the registry—arguably the worst part of a new Florida crime bill capitalizing on human-trafficking propaganda—was revived and reinserted before the measure’s passage in the Florida Senate. The final version, approved last week, creates a database of convicted prostitution customers, targets strip clubs, and mandates that a slew of state workers and businesses jump through new hoops to accommodate a few politicians’ latest attempt to get their names in the press.
As the Florida Senate’s Committee on Community Affairs stated, the new registry “will collect and centralize information relating to those convicted of soliciting prostitution, regardless of whether the person subject to the solicitation is a victim of human trafficking or not.”
The Soliciting for Prostitution Public Database will list anyone who has been convicted of, or plead guilty, to “soliciting, inducing, enticing, or procuring another to commit prostitution, lewdness, or assignation.” The legislation specifies that the database should include a person’s name, photograph, address, and offense. Listed people who go five years without a subsequent offense could have their names removed.
“This isn’t creating a list of bad or dangerous clients; it’s just a list of clients who got caught by the police,”

Reasoning over or attempted justification of any subjugation of another human or any other animal is futile & ignorant. This inhumanity leads to the fight or fight instinct in every case. Forget legal arguments. These politicians & lobbyist want to enslave you permanently.
Consider this, If people propagate this inhumanity, knowing that it does trigger that response, for their own greed (political gain/power), knowing a human will eventually be forced into that response & that that reponse may harm more people, then that is pure evil. Waiting like vultures for another human to flee or hurt another & constantly driving either response. Controlling voters by emotionional captivation for controI at the expense of a pariah group, who is voiceless (straw man) without humane consideration. When the tide turns, these sick, greedy monsters will meet a grim demise born of their own monster creation. I hope it is as brutal, inhumane & hateful as the situation which they propagate. Cheers!
Could someone smarter than me explain why this seems to imply a new and separate registry than the existing one being used? Is there a legal or financial reason behind this?
Provided that those who appear in the database are not otherwise required to register as a sexual offender or predator under Florida law, this law imposes no obligation on the prostitution solicitation “offender,” who is not required to “register.” This law puts the onus on the state to maintain and publicize the database based on the court records of soliciting prostitution case(s). Notably, this new law does not add soliciting an adult prostitute to the enumerated offenses requiring registration as a sexual offender or predator.
That doesn’t make the law good, but what it does is create a separate public “database” of specific criminal history information, not a new “registry,” which would require individuals to register personal information, either once or periodically.
This will be a great service the State of Florida will be providing for those selling sexual favors. A database of already identified customers.
Perhaps Florida should do some marketing for other illegal business such as drug dealers. Advertise the sellers of meth so customers dont have to lurk in dark alleys.3
I agree. I think it’s all but certain that some enterprising sex workers will use the new database as a tool to acquire new customers. After all, why wouldn’t you use a public list of potential new clients if one is available? This list essentially verifies that the individuals on it are ready, willing and able to pay for the services sex workers provide.
This doesn’t help anything because human traffickers make so much money that they can easily pay off law enforcement and government officials to keep them protected, which does happen, and I am convinced this is the real problem. There are way too many red flags around this.
Good police work would find those human traffickers and rescue those victims from human trafficking. They should start by looking amongst themselves, because that is where it is stemming from.
Good politicians with good intentions would make laws for this (set severe consequences for anybody who works in the system that is caught in any kind of corruption like this and work at finding these individuals), instead of distracting the public with nonsense laws that don’t work and focusing on the wrong people. Put the focus where it belongs. Human trafficking is a big problem because law enforcement and others working in our government and/or system are involved in it. It will continue to be a big problem because they are simply creating distractions to make it look like they are addressing the problem. It’s all a part of their cover up, to keep the money coming for themselves.
It takes someone strong, brave, and with integrity to stand up against corruption like this. It’s something that is way too scary for many people to do. Dealing with bullies can be very scary, but NOT standing up to them just allows them to get worse and do worse. Things will continue to get worse, until this reality is acknowledged and addressed for what it really is.
Florida just loves shaming people.
How long before many of its authors and/or supporters are on that list?
I’m sure it wont be long before some of these politicians end up on thse registries. They love them some prostitutes. I’m surprised it passed with as many of them that get caught paying for sex.
Sooner or later everyone will fall victim to some form of registry. Nowadays we have law enforcement using spy cameras surreptitiously placed in massage studios to view what goes on behind closed doors between adults. Law enforcement has long been trolling the internet to catch so called predators by creating fake juveniles as “victims.” So, what next, law enforcement agents pretending to be dancers at strip clubs to lure unsuspecting men into a prostitution registry attempted solicitation for buying her a drink? Floriduh strikes again thanks to Democrat Lauren Book and Republican Ron DeSantis. So it is evident that both parties are to blame.
