Rep. Plakon bill seeks to tighten residency, employment for sex offenders
A newly filed bill in the Florida House would strengthen state laws governing where registered sexual offenders and predators can live, work and recreate.
HB 45 revises residency restrictions and updates supervision rules for sexual offenders and predators. Expands the definition of “public swimming pool” and “public pool” to include splash pads, spray pools, wading pools, and other water recreation areas used by the public, including those operated by schools, parks, child care centers, group homes, and residential communities. Requires state agencies and local governments to search the sexual offender and predator registry before hiring or appointing an individual. Adjusts residential restrictions for offenders living near schools, parks and other protected areas.

Everyone knows that the long game in this is to make people on the registry leave the state. Each county is doing the guinea pig work with local ordinances, and if they stick then the State will codify it into their statutes. Once there is virtually nowhere that registered citizens can live, work, or travel they will work on ways to harass them wherever they moved to outside of their jurisdiction. Then when other states start to get floods of these people moving to their states, they will be pressed to start following suit, and so on.
Though I see your point. How do they get us to leave the state when a clerical error FTR lands you in prison for years at a time? It’s not like the judge says, “You can go to Prison or leave the state”. They want PFRs on their way to prison before they even know what they did wrong.
I wonder what happens to all of these frivolous carte blanche laws when the dollar collapses?
It seems to me the only chance PFRs will ever have at a fair day in court is when artificial intelligence replaces human judges and becomes the unequivocal omniscient judge in all courtrooms.
I personally would feel more comfortable doing the registry requirements and residency checks with some tesla law enforcement robot at this point.
Looks like a superficial redundancy.
Probably one of those “look my name is on a bill” political statements. Honestly waste of time especially if that’s all he could come up with, which obviously isn’t inline with any statistical data. This is just another “let’s get those sex offenders” act that conflicts with all relevancy in the reality of merit based laws. Might as well make a bill that says: “it’s illegal for sex offenders to breathe oxygen”.
Again stuck in Florida for a 5 more months. Came here because I do have a child and he is 9 years old had to stabilize his situation being his mother turned to drugs. Own a house, had a job gone now (Probation call to supervisor he know about past and all but new charge I couldn’t beat the felony for all is) and I forgot to register an RV within 48 hours at offender office. So another felony. Time to get out of Florida. Officer and judges have no say in sentencing they are held up by statutes. Judge even said sorry upon me accepting my deal instead of jail. I have TBI blown up on Iraq and Afghanistan retired out army medical.
@Crazy88
I’m sorry about your situation. If I could have, I would have been long gone from Florida by now.
also thank you for your service.
This again shows the punitive nature of SORNA, which is headed to trial next year in S. Florida.
Hmm. So i launch my boat at a public boat ramp that has a park. Based on this i couldn’t use it. Even tho I pay the taxes that maintain that public park?
yep keep piling the crap on been on this hit list almost 30 years, no re-offenses, 2 false arrests i’m in my 6-‘s and bad health i suppose that the hospital will become Florida nursing homes for members of the price club!
also includes 1000 feet from public bathing areas (rivers, streams, lakes, ocean), not just public swimming pools.
Lets pledge to make a contribution to anyone who runs against this politican. The word will get around that we will fight back against all the injustice they pile on us every chance they get. Seems to be true that politicans who propose the most draconion measures are covering up something. We can be active in not allowing thier re -election
