The dash-cam video of lobbyist Ron Book’s failed DUI field sobriety test has been released to the media. The video shows a clearly impaired Book barely able to walk a straight line – let alone drive a vehicle! It is frightening to think of the high risk to the public that this menace could have caused!
Karma!
I just googled Ron Book. If someone who doesn’t know Ron Book googles him, what’s the first thing they’ll learn about him?
Well, the first four hits tell you up front that he is someone charged with DUI. So do 10 of the first 11 hits.
This is NO FAIR.
WHY MUST WE BE DEFINED BY OUR WORST MISTAKE, PEOPLE?????
Oh the cruelty
It would so make my day in laughter, if someone on Youtube would put Ron Book’s drunken line walk on a recurring loop and insert the song ” safety dance ” by Men without hats.
Clearly if he is that messed up to even walk, he shouldn’t be allowed to ever drive again. The state should put him on some sort of registry because he is a threat to society. ( DUI registry) Hopefully that fella Deryk Rivera feels better with his pain and suffering….. Ron it wasn’t just an accident, you put countless of people of risk because of you being impaired. You are not setting a good example. I wonder if he needs to wear an ankle monitor, to make sure he doesn’t do it again…..
Question: Will Ron Book be Disbarred from Practicing Law….well, under the The Florida Bar Rules, “An attorney or counselor may be disbarred or suspended for any of the following causes arising after his or her admission to practice: (1) His or her conviction of a felony or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, in which case the record of conviction shall be conclusive evidence”
….’conclusive evidence” here is the Key…..any reasonable person would agree that it is conclusive!
No, Dancing with the Stars for You!…LIke No SOUP FOR YOU!
Dear Chef James,
Ron Book is not a lawyer. He is a lobbyist. So there is nothing the Florida Bar Association that oversees lawyers can do to him. His criminal future is strictly up to the courts.
Ron Book IS a lawyer!
Dear Chef and FAC,
I do stand corrected. The link for Book’s bar information is below. When I ran a search for it earlier, nothing came up. Sorry to any and all affected by the error.

Wait…..first he says it’s medication for his knees and ankles, and THEN it’s for his cancer? Liar, Liar, pants on fire. He was already known to be dishonest, now he and his word is totally discredited.
He’s only sinking himself by saying such things. He’s outright admitting foreknowledge that the medicines he takes can interact with alcohol. For him to willingly imbibe while on the medications, and then drive, sounds willfully negligent to me.
The one time I wish I was hit by Ron Book…
Well there is a saying that snake can’t walk a straight line..he needs to be shamed.
Ronnie Boy Would Not Make it in ‘Dancing with the Stars’…the Poor Lad appears to be very confused….You all know he is paid by Gold Coast Distributing, one of the largest BEER DISTRIBUTORS in FL…….
Hmm…I wonder what new advertising slogan we can come up….
If Ron is taking a number of medications for cancer and they are powerful meds should he have even had one alcoholic drink? Maybe if he lived out in the elements or under the same requirements as those required to register he would gain some humility and God would heal his cancer. Oddly, being a wealthy crazed and obsessed man is not the highest lower!
No he shouldn’t. My husband has lung cancer and takes Tramadol and not big doses. I drive him everywhere as a precaution. Ron Book should not be behind the wheel.
bad ankles and bad knees from running track, medications for his cancer, any excuse but the alcohol itself.
Mary
You don’t get bad ankles and knees from running track. The number one reason is bad life styles. Bad diet and poor exercise techniques. I’m older than him and don’t have any of those problems and I run every day weather permitting. Also people with those conditions walk with a limp but don’t stumble when walking slow. If anyone believes his lies they have no right to wear a badge. His cancer excuse is just as feeble. He is a real work of art. The most unbelievable part of the whole thing is how many people for so long he has been able to fool and make fools of to pull off his circus act and get away with it.
Perhaps from crawling on his knees as he “lobbys”
Still no word from Sen. L Book? Maybe they understand what it is to be a shame and feel empathy for others for making a mistakes. Perhaps this was GOD’s plan to make them stop with nonsense, Who knows? KJV ” Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall,…”
No one ever gets away with what they do against others. It always eventually all catches up to the person. Seems that he has a lot catching up to him now. I’m sure there’s more for him to come, since he’s not owning up to it.
Ron Book is a politician. Plain & simple. Some of you on here were on the High School Debate team. On your side (the only one that matters?!) you go back & forth arguing YOUR POINT. YOUR POINT is the only one that matters— whether right or wrong. You are trained that what you think is the only possible option.
NOW…..
Look at Ron Book. Truth or lie, fantasy or reality; Book makes himself out to be right.
“The guy hit me” (LIE)
“I have bad Knees & ankles from running track for 15 years…..”(LIE)
(How many on here ran track? Do you have bad ankles & knees that only show symptoms during a sobriety test).
They didnt bother him from taking off on reporters, without a limp or wobble.
He hit the car from behind, causing it to roll over 3 times; yet he tries to state that the other car hit him. (LIE)
THEN…..
He digs into his “bag of pity” and pulls out the “CANCER CARD”. He tries to blame cancer meds for making him smell like a Budweiser Brewery, and ONLY on THIS “Field Sobriety Test”.
KARMA! He was driving a pretty Lamborghini….
I don’t wish harm to anyone, but, Ron Book, your day before GOD is coming…
In Ron Book’s defense, asking a crooked SOB like him to walk a straight line is asking the impossible.
Snakes can’t walk straight lines. So true!
Ron Books hypocrisy and being a pathological liar which we have known all along is now being revealed to others. Maybe they will finally believe what FAC has been trying to tell the public and warn them of all along.
Perhaps he should no longer be able to visit/live within 1000 feet of any structure known to commonly serve alcohol. Obviously he is unable to control his urges and needs to be labeled as a threat to the community and to society as a whole. We must do something to protect ourselves and our children from monsters like this, that are simply allowed to wander the streets free of consequence. My daughter was injured when she was a child due to a drunk driver, and has had to suffer the mental and emotional anguish ever since. It is our responsibility as citizens of this state, to keep people like this off of the street and protect our loved ones. Starting to sink in yet Ron? Sometimes it’s hard for hypocrites to appreciate hypocrisy.
Let’s get SOSEN’s idea going in FL now!!
http://sosen.org/blog/2019/03/01/child-protection-and-community-notification-act.html
Obviously wasn’t just a simple DUI. The other driver could have been killed, and likely would have been if it had been an elderly person. Could have been a car load of children too. I confronted several drunks in prison who whined about “only” being there for drunk driving, while molesters were getting less time, which was certainly not true. I warned them to shut up because others doing real time were planning on hurting them if they kept it up. Wonder how frighteningly high the recidivism rate is for drunk drivers.
Wonder no more:
https://www.nhtsa.gov/staticfiles/nti/pdf/811991-DWI_Recidivism_in_USA-tsf-rn.pdf
Drivers Arrested for DWI (DUI) Nat’l Avg. 25%
Drivers Convicted of DWI (DUI) in FL 26%
Drivers With License Revocations or Suspensions for DWI (DUI) in FL 58%
Frightening AND High indeed!
So which is it? Cancer drugs, or bad knees/ankles? Why wasn’t the cancer drugs the excuse he told trooper? Regardless, you were impaired! Didnt care about others safety. Didnt care about your own. You are very lucky! You could’ve cost that his life. Wheres the remorse. Wheres the I made a very bad decision. Let’s me take responsibility. Get the man a new car. Take care of his medical bills. Then move on. Wait you dont deserve to move on. The same way you push for others to not be able to. Who have taken responsibility and have moved on and are trying to live their lives.
I don’t think he is well liked by many people, except for his daughter; which doesn’t figure, and people he pays to do what he wants. Its amazing how some people seem to thrive in their biased, hateful endeavors. Maybe the tide will turn now as his lies become more obvious. Desperate people do desperate things, like blaming cancer drugs on his alcoholic impairment. Who does he think he’s kidding?
I have long felt Drunken Ron is universally DISliked. He’s just a mini Machiavelli, so nobody dares cross him.
Why is this not a felony? Driving under the influence of alcohol or any drug is dangerous. If you are convicted of a sex offense, no matter how minor, it is a felony with lifetime consequences even if it is a no contact situation. Surely, endangering people with a 3400 pound weapon that can easily wipe out several people at once should be a felony too. The justice system seems more than a bit skewed in my opinion.
In Florida, you have to cause serious bodily injury or death to another person for a dui to be charged as a felony on a first offense. Mr. Book is very lucky that his victim was not harmed…
He hasn’t been to court yet. Convict him first!
how many children could he have ran over with a high profile Lamborghini..What about the person in the other vehicle whom he crashed into and could have killed? How many children could he have left with out a parent? How many lives impacted with sorrow and tragedy all by the reckless actions of an unrepentant killer behind the wheel….
…But by all means ignore the elephant in the room.. we need to ostracize consensual sex, inflatable dolls, honeymooners necking on the beach, children for playing doctor, and teenagers for exploring teenage hormones, and young 15 to 24 consensual relationships…Yes sir ieeeee BOB those are the big threats to society..lock em up and throw away the key..brand them with scarlet letters on their foreheads, passports, drivers licenses and identifications…..lets make some more registry’s,sun down laws, jim crow legislation and blanket “civil” incarcerations……the hypocrisy….not one thing has changed in America from the burn em some witches days except the title of those they call witches…
When a person has personal problems, they tend to “act out”. Psychologists call ” ‘acting – out’ behavior” that which disrupts a person’s general routine because of psychic distress.
My guess is that Ron Book fully understands the distress and discomfort and HELL that he has caused to so many people (and our entire society) through his insane scheme of revenge and personal animus.
How sad!
His better nature is taking over (despite his overt feelings of malice and hatred).
Yes, his sense of conscience is telling him how EVIL he has been – AND what a shitheel he has been to so many for so long!!!!!!!
It (his inner voice – his conscience ! ! ) is telling him that it is time to act out … It is time to rebel, to “CRY FOR HELP”
“DAMN THE TORPEDOS!!”, whines his stricken conscience!
Poor, SAD creature!!!!! Poor SAAAAAAADDDD Creature!!!
Surely not the first time he’s done this. Probably not even the worst he’s been. He just got caught this time. Poor bastard will probably never have to experience the joys of lifetime registration. Pity that. No one would deserve it more. Menace to society, that one.
“An average drunk driver has driven drunk over 80 times before first arrest.”
https://www.madd.org/statistics/
Thanks FAC for posting this. I watched and am appalled. His excuse of having cancer and being on many meds is a voluntary admission on the news that he was driving while impaired. What an asshole!
I hope Deryk, the victim takes Ron Book to the cleaners. Ron Book showed absolutely no remorse for his actions that could have killed Mr. Rivera and placed many others at risk of injury of death. Mr. Book has a history of reckless driving.
Ron felt this dash can video could help him? Something tells me that is not going to be the case.
Yes, I feel your thoughts completely. No apology just excuses. I hope that the law is able to be applied to Mr. Book because his actions also pose a danger to society and the public should know when the “pot is calling this kettle black” you get me ?
I refuse to take any glee in seeing him like this. Obviously I disagree vehemently with his stance on the registration issue but only hope this teaches him not to judge others.
Your hope is futile…Ron is a narcissistic sociopath who is incapable of feeling empathy. We are his meal ticket and I am sure he considers HIMSELF lucky that Lauren was abused as it provides a nice little racket for them BOTH!
The masses are starting to wake up however and while the registry is nothing more than decades of additional monitoring/confinement/punishment there should be a reasonable way off – especially those of no risk (the VAST majority)! But Florida is one of a 4 states with lifetime registry for peeing in an alley!?! WHY???
Money, that is why.
Don’t be so naive this man is a felon and still judges other people.
Its admirable you want to take the high road but he won’t be joining you on it.
I don’t understand…
If Ron Book is a convicted felon, then how is it that he is a lawyer and a lobbyist?
He is not a convicted felon. He was convicted of misdemeanors. Please take some of the poster’s comments with a grain of salt.
https://www.miaminewtimes.com/news/crime-and-politics-6365240
I guess he’s not a felon but he has quite the rap sheet and more convictions than me.
Registrant—-
Very detailed article thank you. No honest person could possibly back Ron Book after reading his biography. He is a con man to be sure. One thing he even admitted that stands out is his desire to win at all costs . He has no morals to that end. Nether does anyone who takes has money and follows him. Even murder is on his ok list. Watch your back .
On another subject . Clarence Thomas S.C. Judge has made several comments lately about the need to reverse some old decisions made by the court, to make them more in line with the constitution. In my opinion the registry needs to be on that list. He mentioned these other decisions were made because of political reasons not constitutional ones. Is that not also the case with the registry?
Also, the right to lobby the government is included in the 1st Amendment, meaning one doesn’t have to be a lawyer to lobby Congress. Would think all states, Florida included, guarantee the same in their constitutions.
But the reality, of course, is that you have to register in order to lobby. And even if you do, most officials won’t pay you much mind unless you come bearing gifts.
Also, even if he does get a felony conviction here, odds are the lobby registration rules would be amended to accommodate him. And I’m pretty sure the suspension or revocation of his law license won’t dent his pockets too seriously. Most of his activities (at least the public ones) don’t require a bar license or membership in good standing as far as I know.
I am wondering about the implications of refusing a field sobriety test. I have a vague memory that there are severe consequences for not taking the breathalyzer. Anyone?
Michigan’s Law
If arrested for drunk driving in Michigan, you will be required to take a chemical test to determine your bodily alcohol content (BAC). Under Michigan’s Implied Consent Law, all drivers are considered to have given their consent to this test. If you refuse a test, six points will be added to your driver record and your license, or non-resident operating privilege, will be suspended for one year. A suspension of a license, or non-resident operating privilege, is automatic for any refusal to submit to the test. This is a separate consequence from any subsequent convictions resulting from the traffic stop. If you are arrested a second time in seven years and again unreasonably refuse the test, six points will be added to your driver record and your license, or non-resident operating privilege, will be suspended for two years. If you refuse to take the test under the Implied Consent Law or if the test shows your BAC is 0.08 or more, your Michigan driver’s license will be destroyed by the officer and you will be issued a 625g paper permit to drive until your case is resolved in court.
