SB 1226 sails through Rules Committee
This morning SB1226, Senator Lauren Book’s bill that would reduce the time period in which to register from 5 days to 3 passed the Rules committee and is now headed to the floor, where it will undoubtedly pass.
You can watch the video of Lauren Book describing the bill as “impacting transient registrants who are trying to exploit a loophole” here: https://www.flsenate.gov/media/videoplayer?EventID=2443575804_2018031001(starts at 1:26)
We know that’s NOT what this bill is about and it impacts everyone who is registered in Florida, 99% of which are not trying to exploit anything, just live their lives. It also adds mandatory GPS monitoring for registry violations.
NOBODY showed up to speak against the bill, which is the worst shame of all!

It’s amazing so all the calls that everyone made. & Emails that we’re sent I know for a fact my son emailed them every day for a week. And still they don’t hear us out. I don’t get it. They still don’t listen to us ..! It makes you almost give up. Depressing!!
NO – when we sue we will do a public records request and all the notice will come out.
Putting the skids to a bill having anything to do with registrants on the heels of the high profile Smith sentencing is a challenge, but I agree with the statement; show up, stand up and speak up or to further quote Janice Bellucci; Educate, Legislate and Litigate.
Why are these legislators listening to some lightweight Democrat from Ft. Lauderdale?
Because her dad is the largest political contributor in the State. Or was your question rhetorical?
This is what happens when there is profit to be made in “serving”. When a million dollars is spent to get a $100,000 a year job, you know something is wrong.
Lauren Book is only a democrat because that was the party seat open so she could run – trust me Lauren Book is no democrat. Only in title –
Lauren Book is a mental midget that needs her daddy to give her direction . She has a vendetta against sos because daddy left with a nanny that molested her for years?
I just posted about this a day ago on the hb version. Again the same question:
“So this is passing on Friday if I am reading this right?? Is there ANY recourse at all to appealing this bill???
Are we actually completely at the mercy of these buffoons that there is nothing we can do here???????
37 Yeas and 0 Nos????

One added Caveat: If they don’t want us can we please be given a path to successfully leave and never come back? This state and this entire nation is officially garbage. Effectively continuously trashing the constitution. I do not wish to wait around for the hope that one day I can get my life together I want to LIVE TODAY! WITHOUT FEAR OF LOSING MY LIFE FOR A TECHNICALITY!!!!!!!
Anon – we can call legislators like there’s no tomorrow. Join tonight’s member call to strategize.
This is a sad day for Florida registrants 🙁
Anyone with knowledge about how to start a campaign to expose this political hack named Lauren Book?
First someone needs to show up to speak out against the bill.
If nobody is willing to do that, we can’t complain when they pass them without discussion.
If I didn’t have to work to live this shitty life I’d go anywhere to speak out out against her. Most of this is done during a normal workday though.
>:(
I don’t think most of the homeless people where aware of this without their smartphones to alert them. Probably can’t afford the monthly cellphone bill or even get one without a job or a permanent address.
I am have not been in Florida since seeing the writing on the wall and left in 2005 and not been back nor will I ever return . SO I will never be around to voice my opposition. However, I would image that no one thinks it will make a bit of difference so those still in Florida just didn’t bother.
It is very apparent that there is this hate monger Lauren Book has found her niche as a professional victim and it is equally apparent that the vast majority do not care about homeless citizens of the United Sates and even LESS about homeless registered sex offenders.
NO one is going to even attempt to stop this runaway sociopath until those labelled as sex offenders are seen as HUMANS!
It was my understanding that the FAC represents the rank and file registered citizens. So I am confused as to why no FAC officer/representative was there to speak against the bills.
Because FAC lacks the funds to send someone to Tallahassee and we have no volunteer in the area to do this. Gail, our president, who usually goes, lives in Palm Beach County. Its a 6+ Hour Drive.
When these bills get bumped from one day to the next, it’s impossible to attend on a moments notice. Last minute airfare and hotel is cost prohibitive.
We have REPEATEDLY sought out volunteers in the Tallahassee area who are willing to show up, but NOBODY has volunteered yet.
If anyone is willing to fulfill this role, please post a comment below.
JZ – when you see how many people volunteer, we’ll have an answer.
Thank you for that explanation. By the way, that video has been taken down!
THE SENATE JUST PASSED HB1301, UNANIMOUSLY 35-0. GOD HELP US ALL.
