Sex Offenders being denied access to family in hospitals

By now we’re used to being excluded. Can’t be on Facebook…. well, they sell your private information anyhow. Can’t take your kids to Disney World… who wants to pay ten bucks for an ice cream bar shaped like a mouse anyhow? But there’s a trending exclusion that brings cruel and unusual punishment to an entirely new level. Sex offenders are being denied access to visit family in hospitals.

Over the past few months, individuals on the sex offender registry have been denied entry or removed from hospitals, unable to visit dying parents or be present for the surgeries of their own children.

As a parent (and a son), I can’t imagine what I would do if I rushed to the hospital to be by my loved one’s side in the case of an emergency and was told I could not enter. I would absolutely lose my mind and I can’t imagine anyone who loved their parents or their children half as much as I do would not do the same.

As inhumane as this scenario is, it’s exactly what has been happening. Stuart Yates was removed from his son’s hospital bedside in Wisconsin. A Missouri father was denied access to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital to be with his newborn child, who was in the NICU after he was rushed to the hospital when he stopped breathing. An FAC member, just today, was turned away from Galisono Children’s Hospital in Ft. Myers…

If hospitals are allowed to get away with excluding family members of critically ill patients because of their status on a registry; there’s no more cruel and unusual punishment I can think of. This is a nationwide problem and one we should discuss at the upcoming national conventions.

Here’s another one for ya related to this. Back in November, my parents went on a trip and my dad passed away suddenly in his sleep. The funeral was in South Carolina. I’m on probation so obviously I can’t leave the county and I certainly can’t travel and stay overnight in South Carolina. Soooo, I had to pay my lawyer $420 to do a motion to get a court order for me to travel to South Carolina for 4 days and 3 nights (like a vacation package or something) lol. Here’s the best part, one of the conditions for the order was that I had to report to probation when I got back for a DRUG test!! 🤣🤣 So forget about me meeting up with someone online, we’re more worried about me smoking weed overnight in South Carolina LMAO!! This is how utterly stupid our government is y’all. But yeah, on top of making provisions in hospitals they need to make provisions for people on probation to travel to be with loved ones overnight in hospitals or for funerals. My probation officer couldn’t approve me without a court order, otherwise she would have. They need to have that power at the very least. But the thing is, let a 5 time convicted drug dealer who wreaks of marijuana into the hospital to see their family?? Sure, go right on in. Let a habitual thief whose liable to grab all the meds and supplies he can get his hands on in there?? No problem. Let a non violent SO in there who’s offense is decades old?? Hell no. WTF is wrong with this country?? It is mentally insane and is being run by mentally insane people. Real sh*t.

The hospital has a few entrances…. There is no way in hell they could keep me from my wife (or kids) if they were in the hospital.
    Which brings up another question…….
What happens to the RSO’s if THEY need medical attention? If they are having a medical episode and need to be hospitalized? Are they going to turn US away?

This looks like ANOTHER lawsuit for discrimination.

I am an RSO and I, personally have not had a denial of medical services or denial of visitation. I even spent 10 days in the hospital, with the knowledge of The local sheriff, SVU, and FDLE and nothing was an issue.

When will this end? I cant see my loved one, I might not be admitted into a hospital because of my “status”, when will we be denied the right to seek medical attention, to be present when our loved ones are getting an exam from a doctor.
    AND–
When are they going to take away our right to breathe ? ? ?

      @Sean,

You nailed it buddy. There’s more than one entrance into a hospital is there not?? I live in Jacksonville and we are known for our health care and excellent hospitals. I do deliveries there and have had to go for appts also. I walk in with no problem and the hospital is usually wide open. Including the Children’s hospital. It’s all connected. So yes, I dare them to deny me entrance should I need to see a loved one. That’s what I was saying earlier. Why are we cow towing to these govt idiots?? Find a lawyer who will file a lawsuit and sue the hell out of these people. I’m sure in cases like these we would win hands down. In any event, I like you’re thinking. There’s more than one way to skin a cat. You can enter hospitals in numerous ways. Good one man.

So we can’t go to Disney World even when we get off probation?? News to me. Not surprised. Yes this is the height of cruel and not unusual but insane!! Thank you media for creating this ridiculous paranoia. They would just have to arrest me because I would barge right in there and dare them to stop me. We as SOs just need to be more daring like that rather than being so quiet, civil, and submissive. Yeah it might cause some unwanted consequences but I would rather fight for my dignity as a human being as opposed to bending over and letting people give it to me just because of some stupid damn label the corrupt govt gave me because I got caught in their stupid scam sting operation.

You can go to DISNEY. I just wouldn’t buy season passes.

        This has been verified extensively.
If you want to take your kids to Disney, buy a single day pass at the gate.
DO NOT buy an annual pass, multi-day pass, online tickets, etc., etc.
Buy your ticket at the gate and you should not have a problem.

Disney checks the registry for any guest that buys tickets online. After not having a problem for years, I was denied entry when I bought water park tickets for my children and I online. Bought the tickets online and went to the gate as usual but my ticket had been revoked. After giving me a run around for 45 minutes saying there was an IT problem they were trying to fix, Orange County deputies showed up and trespassed me for a year and walked me and my kids to the car. We went to another water park. They refunded my ticket but refused to refund my kids tickets even though there was no way for them to go into the park without me.
My advice, spend your money elsewhere. But if you have your heart set on Disney, pay cash at the gate.

This is an issue that needs to be presented to the supreme court as an unintended consequence thus creating it to be a cruel and unusual punishment. Sure the law itself doesn’t say SO’s are barred from hospitals and other such places, however the courts need to consider external societal factors that come into play with the registry. The term “sex offender”, regardless of the crime, is overwhelmingly perceived by the general public to reference strictly child molesters and rapists. We all know that there are a million circumstances that can result in that label, but it automatically portrays in the minds of average people the worst of the worst of sexual deviancies
