Sex Offenders being denied access to family in hospitals

By now we’re used to being excluded. Can’t be on Facebook…. well, they sell your private information anyhow. Can’t take your kids to Disney World… who wants to pay ten bucks for an ice cream bar shaped like a mouse anyhow? But there’s a trending exclusion that brings cruel and unusual punishment to an entirely new level. Sex offenders are being denied access to visit family in hospitals.

Over the past few months, individuals on the sex offender registry have been denied entry or removed from hospitals, unable to visit dying parents or be present for the surgeries of their own children.

As a parent (and a son), I can’t imagine what I would do if I rushed to the hospital to be by my loved one’s side in the case of an emergency and was told I could not enter. I would absolutely lose my mind and I can’t imagine anyone who loved their parents or their children half as much as I do would not do the same.

As inhumane as this scenario is, it’s exactly what has been happening. Stuart Yates was removed from his son’s hospital bedside in Wisconsin. A Missouri father was denied access to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital to be with his newborn child, who was in the NICU after he was rushed to the hospital when he stopped breathing. An FAC member, just today, was turned away from Galisono Children’s Hospital in Ft. Myers…

If hospitals are allowed to get away with excluding family members of critically ill patients because of their status on a registry; there’s no more cruel and unusual punishment I can think of. This is a nationwide problem and one we should discuss at the upcoming national conventions.

How are these people learning of a persons offense
Are they not worried about being sued for millions ?
If my family is in the hospital I am there with them
If I was denied I would set my shame aside and get an attorney
    And collect funds

I did exactly what you are thinking !! I spoke to TWO Lawyers !!. And according to them, The Hospital has the “Right” to deny access to “ANYONE” they choose !!. They can’t deny Emergency Services, But can actually deny services to a paitent as long as there isn’t a immediate threat of death !!. They said that there is a SLIM chance of winning in a Lawsuit, But needed a Pretty BIG retainer to get it started. The HUGE retainer thing stopped me in my tracks !!. I’m like 99% of other EX Offenders, Broke and barely getting by !!. Can’t AFFORD to Fight !!!. The “Government” has us Right Where They Want Us !!!!. Broken and unable to do anything !!!!.

Understood but if they are denying because of a past issue then they need to deny all with any past issue as theres no proof this issue is any worse than any other. All or nothing and then if not its discriminatory.

According to the lawyer. The hospital is a private company. And it can deny entry to whomever it chooses. Can’t deny “Emergency” care, But can even deny to help someone with a nonemergency illness !! . Believe me. I want to do something !!. If you find someone that will take the case and do it without a retainer. I’m in !!!!

I believe they can only stop you if it is a “private hospital”. COUNTY-run hospitals are run by the county
(aka: the city, county, state) therefore it is a public place, paid for by taxpayers–Unless the state says that you are “tax exempt”….????

Correct !!. And from what I’ve seen. All County/State hospitals don’t have this “Denial” policy. But as a “Private” Hospital, Department Store, Convince Store, Skating Rink, Or ANY other “Private” Company, They have the option to “Deny” whoever they choose, And let “in” whoever they choose. Yes, I believe that if they deny one class of “Felons”, They should make it a “Blanket” policy. But, In the end, This is “america”(lower case letters on purpose !!!) And we (They) have the “Freedom” to choose whoever they want !. I hate it, You/we ALL hate it. But ????????.

Once they pick and choose thats the problem: if its felons then its felons not this and that. It becomes deliberate and exclusive. And thers the issue of patients rights as well

I wonder if it will come to the fact that WE are denied care at a local hospital…

I take dialysis at a local not-for-profit hospital because all the private dialysis locations are in “neighborhoods”, close to school, parks, daycare centers. A man that used to live in our place had a fatal illness and ultimately was taken to the hospital and then the hospice that was originally supposed to have him. The hospice had the same type of location, and he originally could not stay there. The emergency altered the situation. He could not stay at the hospital because the hospice had health jurisdiction for this man, but he could not normally go to the hospice because of their location. He only had a few days to live and he wanted to see his grandchildren before he died. His daughter asked FDLE and FDLE say “no”. Their opinion was that the children would be jeopardized being in the same room as a sex offender. The man couldn’t even feed himself and he was a danger?! His adult daughter brought them into his room anyway. He had a proper visit with them all. He said goodbye to them. The next day, he passed away. One more dead sex offender in the world. We still get mail with his name and it still shows he lives at this address.

I see there’s no uniformity on how these things are being enforced. For example, in Florida there are NO registration laws against going to Disney World, a hospital and even the park or the beach. I have E-mails from FDLE confirming this. This is when your completely off of all Probation of course. So, my question is where is this coming from? I am only talking about Florida, don’t know what the other states are doing, but Florida is supposed to be one of the worst.

Businesses, such as Disney or a hospital are banning registrants.
The parks and beaches are municipal ordinances (ie: County or City rules)

they didn’t seem to care when my husban was rushed to hospital for congestive heart failure but when he was in hospital before for surgery I called and told registry people that he was in hospital and they actually went there to make sure he was there – all this over combing his step daughters hair

It’s just disgusting. Sometimes it’s the last chance you will ever have to spend time with a dying loved one. It’s bad enough to sit in a waiting room when a family member is undergoing surgery. Can’t imagine having to wait for a phone call to find out if they came through it okay.
