Tweet from the Dobbs Wire RE: Amendment 4

“However you vote, raise hell with FL Amendment 4 supporters including the ACLU- so they’ll think twice about discriminating in future. Flashback: supporters of NY LGBT rights bill deleted the T. Bill passed. Decade later still no transgender rights.”

In the last few weeks I have contacted the new director of WGCU Public media – Fort Myers, Fl. I have also written to the editorial departments of the OrlandoSun, The Miami Herald, the Broward Daily News, The Tallahassee Democrat(? – I think it was), The Naples Fort Myers News press. I have also contacted CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox News, and National PBS Television. I also contacted the producers of Amanpour. I was very measured and presented facts dispassionately. I asked why we were being made into second-class citizens without any political (or social) voice.
I was politely patronized and/or ignored.
I have been thinking about my response to the passage of this Jim-Crow-type Constitutional revision. I have confided in co-workers and my boss. They have expressed their support and sympathy.
I have rejected my anger (well, almost). I have been counseled to accept this as “at least a step in the right direction.”
But I have decided that will not bow and scrape. I believe it is my duty to sit at the lunch counter, so to speak. It is my duty to ride in the front of the bus, so to speak.
I believe that I will be at the polling place, next time with a sign that says “I paid my debt to society…I demand my right to vote!” And when people tell me that I am an idiot because ex-felonsd already regained the right to vote, and where have I been – ling under a rock?? I will then graciously ( but ardently) inform them that I am a second-class citizen without the right to vote (that was given to wife beaters, arsonists, common thieves, pickpockets, purse snatchers, embezzlers, persons who kicked in a door and held a family cowering in fear in front of a gun – yes, all of these ex-felons are givens a second chance.)
I have rejected radical thoughts. But they linger.
I am ANGRY! I want my vote!!! As a taxpaying, law-abiding citizen of the United States and the State of Florida. I don’t ask anyone for this. I demand it!!
“As for me, give me liberty or give me death!” I pay taxes, and I will die, if necessary for my right to vote!
    We have been nice…and nice….and nice…and nice….and reasonable.
I reject a call to arms. I reject violence. I reject state terrorism.
But I will sit-in. I will march! I will speak!

I forgot to mention that I sent an email (again, very reasonably worded and calm) and to Governor Scott.
