Mary Davye Devoy, the VA advocate for reform of sex offender laws, received an unexpected victory.
Gov. Ralph Northam is proposing to remove provisions from the law that would have penalized sex offenders who didn’t disclose their status to emergency shelter security staff and also remove language that allows shelter staff to deny immediate admission to an offender for an unspecified “period of time necessary to ensure the safety of other individuals.” Effectively leaving a registrant seeking shelter “out in the storm”.
The practice was so inhumane that it earlier led to Devoy abandoning her advocacy as a “lost cause”. She’s now considering this one of the biggest successes in her efforts.

Even a blind squirrel can find a nut every now and then.
A glorious turn of events! I watched each of the videos she provided and I am touched by her perseverance and courage!
That is great news for VA. Not sure how it works in FL. If it encourages Mary to resume her (often thankless) efforts, so much the better.
Every year when Hurricane season is coming around, I ask Broward Sheriff WHERE do I evacuate if a Cat 4-5 hurricane comes…??
Their answer…?
Dont know. I cant go to a shelter, they will only take ME in the jail (NO wife, pets, ect). If I tell them that I am evacuate out of the state/NORTH, they want to know “where”……
NOW how in holy Blue Hell am I supposed where there is going to be an “available room” 700+ miles away?
How do I know when I will be allowed back down here?
YET….. I have to remain “compliant” with their foggy-false directives
Our humans government only can answer so much about this topic they themselves don’t seem to understand what laws should they put on the book 📚 their own little self mine is running 🏃♀️ out of ideas
