Vice: A Government Database for People Who Pay for Sex Is a Terrible, Dangerous Idea
A set of bills passed the Florida House and Senate earlier this month that would build a database of people convicted for soliciting sex, and which sex workers and advocates say will ruin lives and put them at more risk.
Senate Bill 540 and House Bill 851, when signed into law, will set up a database that includes anyone convicted of “soliciting, inducing, enticing, or procuring another to commit prostitution, lewdness, or assignation,” according to the Senate’s bill, which was drafted by Democratic senator Lauren Book. The “Soliciting for Prostitution Public Database” would filter everyone convicted of soliciting sex into one database. According to a spokesperson for Book, it would include already-public information from clerk of court including full legal names, date of birth, a mugshot, and the offense committed.

Seems like entrapment to me if the prostitute isn’t listed.
All this is gonna do is change the trade in favor of the pimps where only known prostitutes are gonna get the work through johns instead of internet and undercover cops getting attention. It would be better if prostitution was legal so people wouldn’t think the police are protecting them from something they can’t even figure out road safety here. Florida isn’t safe! Gangs have risen since the registry has been in place by 10x. Protect yourself!
I envision a huge problem with more than prostitution. Consider the hypothetical scenario where a group of men or women go to strip clubs for bachelor or bachelorette parties and are observed by undercover LE getting “lewed” lap dances. Arrest then guilty pleas, then mass groups added to the so called prostitution database.
Maybe the same Johns will wake up and vote her outta office
And if it’s a bad idea, well Florida will implement it to be sure.
Ok so is Robert Kraft’s name gonna be on it then?
someone needs to let him know to find opposition.
All geared toward men.
And how long will it be before they extend the database to the sex workers themselves? After all, part of their job is to “entice” someone to engage in prostitution. How many names will be added through the police stings, which are judged for effectiveness by the number of formerly law abiding individuals who are entrapped by police? The sex offender registries started out as police databases. How long will it be until this new list becomes public? The government witch hunt goes on….
I’m so not going to put ‘this topic to my headache 🤕 list causes my Heavenly Father tell me that I must wait until he makes a great big move forward where our little humans can’t seem to understand what is going on so I’m just chilling until that’s time come around for sure
If you follow the “Read More” link at the bottom of this article, it says that sex workers will also be put on this list. It’s not only for the johns, but the sex workers as well.
This new database WILL be public — that’s the whole point. The sponsors of this bill have specifically stated that it’s purpose is to shame the offenders in order to reduce demand for sex work (like that would ever work). Because of that, however, the law will be particularly susceptible to constitutional challenge, since it’s stated intent is punitive rather than administrative. It will be interesting to see how the courts deal with this new scheme, once it’s challenged.
Gerald don’t you know all sex workers are victims. No one in their right mind would want to freely have sex for money at least that’s what sex workers are being told
