By Sandy Rozek and John Dawe
Vigilantes do not care how an individual landed on the registry. Rozek and Dawe say, “The most concerning factor…is that a segment of the community views these vigilantes as heroes.” The comments section of online articles about acts of violence against persons forced to register have far more people praising the vigilantes rather than condemning them.
Rozek’s and Dawe’s insightful article can be read here.
Definition of Vigilantism – law enforcement undertaken without legal authority by a self-appointed group of people.
They did not undertake law enforcement. They were thugs who murdered. When will we stop using this word? When people here it they think someone is doing something good outside the law because law enforcement won’t. No they are not doing something good and the registrant has already gone thru the legal system, as we all know. Call then what they are….criminals, bad guys, thugs, murderers etc…
In complete agreement!
And these morons know that as a felon you are probably not armed. So the registry actually decreases their fear of effective defense of one’s home and family.
Don’t forget that Vigilantism doesn’t HAVE to be a physical encounter with intent of harm. It also exists in the form of shunning, shaming and other mean-spirited, petty actions. When you hear someone rev their loud truck mufflers or blow their horn when it passes you house, that is an indirect form of vigilantism because you’re being antagonized and targeted. They are sounding their intentional disapproval and projected outrage.
Ask me how I know.
Vigilantism in any circumstances isn’t the best way to solve a problem. Are we not all innocent until proven guilty. That should take a plea deal and shatter it to pieces. I am glad this article was brought up. Now that’s an example of two wrongs don’t make a right situation. All we are looking for is true justice.
You know this is a subject I’ve worried about for many years. I have a wife and children in my home. If anyone comes here looking to harm me or my family. They better hope they bring some guns and shoot me first..If they don’t they most likely won’t make it out of my home alive. And I’m not tuff talking or even joking. If you come here for vengeance. You may not get what you think you’ll get..
I’m not the one either.
Well said. I am in the same situation and fully agree with you.
Same mindset of the people who praised the young man as a hero who killed the healthcare CEO in New York.
