When Trying to Do Good Gets You Kicked Out: Another Second Chance Denied

It’s truly disgusting to see someone striving to give back—only to be blocked at every turn. A 29-year-old self-advocate with the Autism Society of Maine (ASM), was removed from the board (a volunteer position) after the Maine Wire revealed he’s a registrant. This is a person who chose to volunteer to give voice to those on the autism spectrum. He’s trying to redeem himself from a past misdeed by doing philanthropic work, yet he’s being punished for past mistakes instead of supported for his present efforts.

His bio described him as a self-advocate for the Autism Spectrum community, dedicated to making the world more inclusive – yet he’s being excluded. The nonprofit says it didn’t know about his registration during the application process, and now it’s implementing background checks and updating bylaws to “preserve safety and trust”

But the guy isn’t trying to do harm. He’s paid his debt to society and is now moving forward and dedicating his time and efforts to contribute positively. Isn’t that exactly the sort of outcome reentry policies should encourage? Instead, he’s being forced out of a volunteer position. That sends a devastatingly counterproductive message: no matter how far you’ve come, your past will always define you.

When someone with lived experience steps up to serve a vulnerable community, that should be celebrated, not punished. The ASM should be ashamed for ostracizing this man and the Maine Wire should be ashamed for facilitating it!

I’d like to point out that the “reporter” is not so much a journalist but a fear peddler working for a far right extremist rag, and the rest of his articles are also appaling to look at.

If he murdered children, if he sold drugs to kiddos,if he beat up pregnant ladys, if he burned apartments to the ground that housed orphanages then paid for his crimes this story would be a story of “redemption” and anyplace that allowed him to volunteer would be “noble” and he would be “Heroic”.. BUT if the crime was anything under the umbrella of 50,000 plus things that constitute a “s2exual crime” under Americas s3xually represesed tyranical regime it becomes a story of “How dare you” “How could you” get the torch and pitchfork, lets crucify him, burn him at the stake with the witches, ostracize him with the lepers and brand he star of david to his forehead.. oh… the irony.. One has to wonder how the exact same political elite that were all Epstein clients themselves can sleep at night with the demons they’ve unleashed on the peasant’s.. we wont even question the populations character as history has already placed that firmly on display…its nothing to be proud of… masses are azzes..

Doesn’t matter you should not have to pay forever and once you paid what you were told you should be completely free with all your rights restored and off the public registry.

According to public opinions a registrants can’t do good even when they are trying do something good. A guy once said you could be out of prison & off parole for 50 years & save a whole family from a burning house & headline would be, you guessed it, “Registrant
(and probably not the name they would use?) Saves family from burning house”

Hioh, or the headline might read “Sex Offender breaks into family home.”

That’s why I don’t go out of my way to help anyone, unless you’re on the registry. Only people who matter to me is my family 🤷

I admit that the SOR restrictions have made me more callous towards the public in general and events.
Forbidden from going to a county festival or state fair? Well, to hell with them if people don’t show and they can’t make money!

Frankly, they wouldn’t even appreciate the help anyway if it was coming from one of us. Their pride will ultimately be their undoing. After Pride comes destruction, I’ve heard.

    Um, excuse me.
PFR here. We are all told in “the class” that we will not be allowed to volunteer or be employed at any place that caters to Children, Elderly, the Disabled or Mentally Handicapped.
I also believe it’s written on our registration ppk that we initial.
    So, quit cha bi…en.

Not all states have those requirements. And those that do shouldn’t.
