Florida has the country’s second-largest veteran population, and the Biden administration is trying to keep those veterans from falling into homelessness. At the same time, Florida has the third-highest homeless population for veterans and nonveterans in the country.
The administration is trying to eliminate homelessness for veterans in 2023.
Much of the work is being done by the Department of Veterans Affairs, which does not discriminate, meaning no excluded groups. So, if you or someone you know is a veteran and on the sex offense registry and homeless, please check their program out at va.gov/homeless/.

The military CANNOT deny a anyone entitled by law to the following: Commissary/PX or Exchange, Medical, or access to Military ID cards. They can prevent your access to MWR facilities. The General or Admiral in charge of the region in question will have to be petitioned for the access privileges to be reinstated. This will have to be accomplished by contacting the base Legal for the location where the General or Admiral has his Staff. It took me about 3 months to get my Base access reinstated.

No, the VA does not discriminate.
And yet they are denying vets entry onto bases in many cases now. I was going to go with my parents but after Captain Munsey said he was refused entry, I knew I would not be let in as just a dependent. I use to go all the time with my parents.
I have read articles pointing out the same thing. If a VA clinic happens to be located on a military base, they often can’t allow the offender in to receive treatment.
I’ve stated for years that the very people who made our FREEDOMS should be afforded anything on planet particularly the basics of LIFE which is FREE HOUSING. Shame on America for just n ow opening its eyes to the Veterans of America.
This is a good share, but the problem is the housing restrictions. The VA runs into the same issue….no place to place someone due to restrictions. They may not discriminate, but they don’t have a solution either when the homelessness is due to geographical incarceration (aka housing restrictions).
There are states that do not have residency restrictions, and there are some states that do have these restrictions but they are not as onerous as the ones in Florida. Veterans on the registry can be moved to these other states.
Veterans services are restricted in moneys to use on vets because of HUDs disqualification of section 8 funds to anyone who is on the registry.

HUD restrictions ban sex offenders who are on the registry for life. Social worker was in disbelief when I told her I couldn’t apply for Section 8 housing because of my lifetime registry status. She looked it up for herself because she knows of other registered offenders in Section 8 housing. Unfortunately, as I understand it, Florida places everyone on it for life. Even if the rental is stand alone housing, I can’t get government help.

I still think it is Florida but that is my opinion based on how many move here after retiring.

I sent you an email. Not everyone can move, many are on probation, some can’t even leave the county. Others have their support here. Family here. It is not that the VA fails at trying or isn’t willing to try, they just have the same issues.
Mp, if there is a veteran who is also on the registry and is need of long-term care, the VA can be of assistance. With my own family member, I have had 2 different social worker case managers with the VA tell me that if my situation ever became dire because no one would take my family member because they are on the registry, they have seen cases where the veteran is wheeled into the ER of a VA hospital and told that there is no one to care for them. The veteran was then checked into one of the hospital rooms until they found a place for them to go. The VA has their own nursing homes, some of which do not lie within the “forbidden” zones. There are also some people, out of the kindness of their hearts, who have turned their homes into boarding houses simply to care for people that society has rejected.
Now for those who do not need long-term care, I have learned that you have to sometimes fight to get help from the VA. Keep fighting/contacting them. Sometimes it is the person you get on the phone. One employee might be indifferent and say they cannot help, while the next person you call says they can help. Not all VA employees are the same. I have seen some that will fight for us.
My experience with the VA has been that they are here to do anything that they can to make sure that all veterans’ needs are taken care of.
