Zoning committee approves ordinance that allows Jacksonville daycare to reopen within 2,000 feet of sex predator

Jacksonville Land Use and Zoning committee approved an ordinance that allows a day care to reopen within 2,000 feet of a sex predator.

The current city code requires a 2,500-foot distance between the two. The request that the day care owner is making would shrink that distance to 1,980 feet, putting the offender just outside the radius.

“There is a great need for day care in the neighborhood,” Paul Harden, the attorney for the day care, said.

After more than an hour of discussions, the committee voted to grant the appeal, allowing the day care to remain in its location.

Now it will go before the full city council for a final vote.

So if a day care center (not even a high school) can open within 2,500 feet of the residence of a “sexual predator” (not just an “offender”), then such restrictions aren’t really for the purpose of protecting children at all, are they? If they were oh so necessary, then the safety of the children (and not the convenience of the business owner) would come first. Why couldn’t the daycare center owner not just lease space another 600 feet away?

My first house (I have owned 3 over a 24 year period) had a home owners association. Once the HOA president found out about me, he had a playground built in the empty lot next to my house to try and get me removed. I asked my probation officer about it and she personally went and spoke to the president of the HOA and told him that he could not make me move because I was already established when he built the “Unauthorized” playground which was never voted on by the residence, but he made all the homeowners pay for it in fees.
After my probation was finished, I moved to a 2nd house somewhere else. Then a neighbor from hell moved in next to me and made my life a nightmare. Sold that house after two years and moved to where I have been for the last two decades. Not perfect but no matter where you live there is going to be someone on our streets that are going to stir up trouble.
What gets me is these people buy a house and later found out a registered person lives on the street then get mad at us, even though they did not do their research and we were there first. My shoes are made of concrete meaning I am not moving until the Lord above says it is time to go.

The moment it gets inconvenient for a “regular” person, they have no problems waiving the restrictions.

“The distance restrictions are pointless anyway”, they reason, “They are only in place to harrass and annoy the scum!”

The man will lose his home the very next time he decides to take a vacation!

…And don’t get me started on the degrading, dehumanizing language word “predator”! They might as well call us “lice” or “a disease”!
