ACSOL: New Federal COVID Bill Provides Funding for Registrant Management
Congress passed a new bill yesterday that is primarily focused upon COVID issues. Hidden in that legislation, which totals more than $900 billion, is about $200 million for the management of individuals required to register as sex offenders.
The largest amount of funding for the management of registrants is $179 million for expenses related to “community supervision and sex offender registration” including expenses related to a protection order. In addition, the legislation provides $20 million for “sex offender management assistance” pursuant to the Adam Walsh Act and $1 million for the National Sex Offender public website.

Is there anyway to find out who is on the committee that keeps funding the SO $. Politicians hate being singled out and exposed. We rail about how ineffective the laws are but if you can cutoff the money, the laws die. Target the politicians in their next election as “wasteful bureaucrats” and maybe we can kill this. We may need to open an attack at the source of the problem in addition to fighting in the courts. Put this committee in a situation where being a member of it is political suicide. See if that makes a difference.
Here’s a CDC grant, not sure if from COVID bill, that will hopefully reduce the number of “created” offenders through prevention:

Seems that money could have been used to actually HELP people who are struggling. This is another example of pork belly waste by our Government. Folks cannot pay for their medications and yet 200 million is going to a useless program that does nothing but harass families? There are untold millions of people living on the streets going hungry.
Only in America folks.
This is just the tip of the ice berg of the bill that was passed. Thank God President Trump could see through the BS the covid relief bill spent money on that was not covid related. The list is appalling. He is one of the few people in DC who are looking out for the citizens and the debt our government is running up. A child born today is already deep in tax debt. It’s no wonder that states like Florida want to maintain a perpetual registry. There is money to be made in keeping a class of citizens in slavery. Safety is a miniscule part of the total effort. Reducing the registry down to the true threats would mean the loss of ‘piles’ of money and jobs performed by those who occupy a desk under false pretenses.
P.S. This bill was hurriedly passed so politicians could go home for the holidays and forget their negligence in producing a national budget for this fiscal year.
Capt…with all due respect this was not about helping people. Was there a lot of crap in that bill? Yes, indeed there was but it was more about punishing McConnell not helping the USA or the people
It was a way to fund pet projects that under normal conditions could not have been ‘sold’. You are right. It was not meant to help people…only to justify theft from the American taxpayer for projects that had nothing to do with covid. The lawmakers wanted to pass something…anything…so they could go home for the holiday. President Trump upset their ‘apple cart’ and for that the nation should be thankful.
Perpetuating wrongs.
One has to wonder how important all this non-sense is if the states got cut off the Federal tit. Wasteful spending for little measurable results. What nimrod put that in the COVID budget?
