Bill Cosby challenges new sex offender law as unconstitutional

Bill Cosby, the former acting legend who was recently convicted of sexual offenses, is challenging his designation as a “Sexually Violent Predator”

Days ago, Cosby received the designation from the State of Pennsylvania. Some of the distinctions of the SVP designation are lifetime registration and enhanced notifications (such as distribution of fliers to neighbors). Among the reasons for his challenge is arguing that “Act 10”, which was passed in 2018, cannot be applied retroactively in violation of the Ex Post Facto clause of the Constitution.

Has anyone heard of anyone lobbying or trying to lobby Jeffery Epstein for donations to fight the registry ? He is a convicted SO here in Florida and is a billionaire. He has an interest in this fight I’m sure.

Jeffery Epstien wont do anything. He has $$$ and dont give a crap about anyone else.
      FAC,
How many times have you asked him? You say “requests”….1-2-18-20??
Maybe a few thousand e-mails (from ex-offenders) might get his attention?….. (just to let him know he is not alone) What are his “contacts?? Are they are public record?.
But wait…. He lives in an Ivory Tower, lights cigars with $100 dollar bills and has the Legal end of this BURIED. WHY should he care about us piss-ants.

      FAC,
I DO NOT want to sound like a “Negative Nancy”, but in the past couple of days you have undermined the entire group here with your “Feel good stories”.

First the guy in Britain; Who got extradited to US.. That is a LOSS. NOT A WIN. (No hope here)
Second is the Cosby thing. Whether Bill did it or not is not the point; the point is he is trying to fight this in PA. HOW MANY TIMES has something been established in one State, then is picked up and applied in other states?…….. (gee, lets see, oh yea…..The United States Constitution & The Bill of Rights, Miranda v. Arizona, Turner v. Driver)

THEN you brighten our future even more by this little ditty——–
“It won’t bring anything to it’s knees. He’s challenging a PA Act, not the entire registry.”

Who Knows this wont go further? YOU???? It just MAY be the thing that brings this whole corrupt thing called the registry to not only its knees, but to abolish it.

OH NO, FAC says “it wont bring ANYTHING to its knees”. Thank you for giving me “hope”. FAC has shot this down BEFORE it is even started.

I am a faithful and passionate supporter of this site, but the past 3-4 days, maybe a week, I have to ask…..
Whos side are you REALLY on?

      ABOLISH THE REGISTRY!!!!!
(where can I donate to that?)

You are completely misconstruing our comments.
The ENTIRE REGISTRY will not be brought to it’s knees because one component of the registry in one state is challenged. That’s not negative that’s fact.

I want to remind people that the only constitutional challenge Mr. Cosby is raising is his registration being raised to “Sexually Violent Predator” status. He will still be on the registry regardless. The most onerous thing about the elevated status is that they would place posters with his face on them in his neighborhood. Big deal. Everyone in the neighborhood would already be aware of his status. Also lifetime registration, but at his age, that doesn’t matter either. With his money, he can move anywhere else he wants to get away from Pennsylvania’s requirements. In fact, there are other countries where he and his millions would be welcome, and he wouldn’t have to register anymore. The appellate court could also simply grant his appeal, and it won’t go any farther. He may even die of old age before he finally has to serve any time at all if his lawyers keep appeals going.

I searched news and can not find ANYWHERE that Bill Cosby is now challenging the ex post facto element of his classification or sentence.
Your post doesn’t have a link either.
    Would please provide one?

Let’s hope he supports the cause. At this point, I’m sure he’s got his appeal and pending sentencing on his mind. Thinking about prison is likely his biggest concern now.

he is fighting the state law that a circuit judge just ruled that it’s unconstitutional the state is appealing thus i doubt this will ever reach SCOTUS

I have always said it would take a famous or rich person who is listed to make some of these ridiculous laws go away.
Lets see how the laws stand up when the person fighting them has as much money as they do.
i hate to say this but im rooting for cosby to win
