Petition to Declare Public Sex Offender Registration in the United States a Violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)
Today, approximately one-million people in the United States are forced to register as “sex offenders”. The label leads to stigmatization, separation from society, loss of employment, loss of housing and even exposure to violence at the hands of vigilantes. The stigmatization extends to the spouses, children, family, friends, employer and anyone that associates with the registrant. The isolation, shame, stress, fear of violence, loss of income and other psychological effects are experienced by the entire household.
I am an RSO who just paroled after 19 years in the California prison system. I started in General Population and encountered the same attitude described above. I transferred to SNY in 2008 where the attitude among the inmates was “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”. No systemic violence against sex offenders because the majority of inmates on those yards were sex offenders. Now CDCR is trying to get rid of SNY yards (through a process called “re-integration”) and it’s back to the bad old days of sex offenders being murdered.
I was incarcerated in a minimum security (those with less than 5 years left on their sentence or those with a less than 5 year sentence) prison yet the mentality that one person was better than another’s still prevailed. There were definitely groups that backed their own.
I basically minded my own business (3 yer sentence), exercised, read books, went to every class I could, etc. I did have “friends” though. It was those associations to friends that led to altercations. Many among my “friends” were a different race to me; race didn’t matter to me, I chose who I associated with based on their qualities as a human. Yet they chose to attack me physically because I wasn’t “one of them”.
The first was someone from the place I lived (like we were homies because we lived in the same area). We were cool till one day he decided whatever and attacked me… yet we were both in for sex crimes.
The second was of another race trying to gain popularity. His bullying was rejected and he backed off.
The point is, in prison and in jails, people try to gain “respect” no matter what put them behind bars. RC’s are easy bait as no one wants to be associated with that crime (even though it’s one of the lowest recidivism rates).
Just goes to show you what kind of human scum works in jails and prisons. I guarantee you the turn-keys think it’s funny when a child molester gets beaten, raped or murdered in prison. I personally think registrants are sent to prison WITH THE HOPE AND INTENT THAT INMATES WILL “TAKE CARE OF THEM ONCE AND FOR ALL.” Otherwise, every state would have prisons or housing units and yards in existing prisons just for individuals with those kinds of charges. There would also have to be separate housing for rapists of adults because they’re vulnerable too, but they’d have to be kept separate from the child molesters because they too amazingly look down their noses at child molesters, therefore they can’t be trusted in the same housing either.
That’s the whole problem with the whole show
1. When you go to court its completely biased against you from the start because of the type of crime
2. People dont listen to anything as soon as they hear the charges. Your guilty
3 your lawyer ain’t trying to fight for you , after all he dont want to be known for getting you off if you later turn out to be another John Cooie
4 the judge is under the same thought
5 so even as in my case it was all he said she said no physical evidence no DNA nothing noted as unusual on the CPT exam so nothing my lawyer dont try to get it thrown out for lack of evidence. Instead he convinces my wife that I will get life in prison. Because after all who is the jury going to want to believe ? So she needed to beg me to take a deal !! I got 10 yrs prison 25 yrs probation. While I was at one camp I saw a 68 yr old man Vietnam vet with one eye in a wheel chair get hit in the head with a lick in a sock over 60 times from behind while the guards stood at the door and waited. I was in the next pod over and could do nothing. The reason for this assult by a 18 or 19 yr old kid was he wanted to make his bones to get into a gang and who better then a registered inmate that was his reason for picking this man a man who came clean of what he did got his life back on track got right with God made amends to his victim , who would be in prison for the rest of his life and would do anything to help anyone. This is what we face if we go to prison so we are strong armed into taking deals , yet they ask were you pressured or coerced into taking the deal REALLY ?? Of course we were !! All I can say is Thankyou to those fighting for us God bless and help & protect those of us who are trying to live right and do the right thing and finally, Mr. Tommy may you rest in peace sir.(2017)
