Jury seated in trial of man accused of targeting registered sex offenders

An Erath County jury of seven men and five women were seated on Monday in the trial of Charles Austin Broyles, a suspect unofficially dubbed the “vigilante shooter.”

Broyles is being tried for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with shooting a registered sex offender in the face in December 2023.

According to the arrest affidavit, Broyles was targeting registered sex offenders living in Erath County, accessing the list of names and addresses from the public sex offender website.

Once again people commenting to donate for the attacker. If the tides turned and it was your father, brother or son who was on the registry and someone killed him, would that not bother you?

Wow just wow. Not sticking up for any crimes we have committed but these vigilantes were not even our victims. Just people that think they are the cleanup crew. Hope they get life in prison away from their own family and see what consequences look like. We are already every single day paying in one way or another for our consequences so leave us the Hell alone. We have done nothing to you unless you or their family was our victim, which is rarely ever.

I have lived in the same house now for 18 years but the same neighbors drive by my house wondering when I am coming for them and give me a dirty look ever single day. Wonder how much face cream they use after scrunching up their facial expressions to look at me like I harmed their family on a daily basis just because I exist. Hey here is an idea, move if you do not like it because I am not going anywhere. God gave me my house as a blessing and until He has another plan for me, I am not moving.

No surprise. This was bound to happen and will happen again. Our loved ones on the registry are sitting ducks. All of their information broadcast to the public, including those who are more dangerous than th majority of people on the registry!

Better to use it on a therapy why he felt he needed to take the action he did and how it is not justified. Because he is disadvantaged, was taken advantage of when he was younger perhaps, and couldn’t tell anyone?
