Kentucky teen pleads guilty to killing sex offender

A Kentucky teenager has pleaded guilty to killing a convicted sex offender who lived nearby.

The Daily News reports 17-year-old Lance D’artagnan Lear of Auburn entered the plea Monday in Logan Circuit Court to charges of murder and arson. The plea agreement recommends a 20-year sentence.

Lear told the judge he went to Jerry Caudill’s home on June 7, 2017 around 3 a.m. and set it on fire knowing Caudill was asleep inside.

Clearly premeditated murder, if true. Betting the media tried to clean up this story a bit because the victim was a registrant (and still might be).

Murder is a capital offense in Kentucky – KY Rev Stat § 507.020 (2018). No judge would accept a 20 year plea deal if the victim was anything but a registrant.

Okay so how many more are going to have to be killed by some nutcase vigilante before it is realized that this registry does not work. As stated many times before it does nothing to prevent crimes since most crimes are committed by first time offenders. I think I am safe where I live, but you never know who is watching those lists. God forbid since it is against the law to have a weapon to protect myself and family. Just where is it going to end?

Would it be possible for the relatives of this offender to sue the registry for endangerment to this victim and his family? Just asking.

So where to begin? Lets start with the fact that when this little prick gets out of prison say 12-15 years from now, he will be able to get a job with a company like IKEA because his 12-15 year old conviction won’t show up on their 7 year background check, whereas they did find my 20 year old conviction even though they say that they weren’t searching for it because I was on the registry.
Not good enough? How about this. This twerp gets a plea bargain for a 20 year sentence on a felony murder rap that could have carried the death penalty had he been a mere year older. His victim, however, could have gotten life in prison for possessing dirty pictures.
