Killer of inmate incarcerated for a sexual offense convicted.
It took a Webster County jury a little over two hours to decide that vigilante justice has no place in the American criminal justice system.
The jury convicted Eric Todd Hall, 45, of first-degree murder for the death of his fellow Fort Dodge Correctional Facility inmate Thomas Daleske on Thursday afternoon.
Hall was accused of killing Daleske, 59, in the victim’s cell at the FDCF on June 14, 2020. Daleske was found unresponsive in his cell in the Grove Unit of the prison around 5:15 p.m. on that date.
The defense had asserted that Hall targeted Daleske because Daleske was a convicted sexual offender.

I wonder how many times the “So what? He’s a sex offender” defense was used successfully that defense lawyers continue to use it in cases of those accused of assaulting registrants.
Hate Crime
I agree with hate crime. However, we are not a protected class. That would be the honest designation, but I doubt we would be able to get “convicted sex offense/registered for sex offense” added to the list of protected classes because we would not be able to come to the courts with “clean hands”. The argument would be that we brought this on ourselves by the crimes we have committed and that they have no duty to protect us from the consequences of our crimes, even though vigilante violence is not a legally prescribed punishment.
Remember that the 10th Circuit overturned Judge Matsch’s ruling that the registry was punitive based on the fact it opens those listed therein to violent vigilantism. Vigilantism was not considered in the court’s ruling. Basically saying, it was a sex offender, so who gives a care?
It’s good to see an outcome like this.

Pleaded down, no prison time, and just three years of regular probation. He spent only one day in jail. Makes me fu¢k1ng sick.
WTF!!?? 😡 “The defense had asserted that Hall targeted Daleske because Daleske was a convicted sexual offender… “. So apparently that’s a reasonable defense?? “Oh, he was convicted of a sex offense so it’s okay to murder him”, is that it?? All good, no problem?? It is outrageously shocking that the judge even allowed the defense attorney to present that information to the jury in a manner clearly intended to lessen the severity of the murder his client had committed. 😡

Even though Mister Hall committed the homicide against Mister Daleske. Mister Hall even though he is accountable and responsible for the death Mister Daleske should still be encouraged to process remorse and to repent.
