Man Sentenced to Death for Killing Sex Offender Inmate

On Monday, Rocky Ali Beamon was sentenced to death in Jackson County, Florida, for First Degree Premeditated Murder of Bruce Hunsicker at the Apalachee Correctional Institution in 2012. Beamon’s confessions shed light on his motive: Hunsicker was a sex offender.

After watching the victim for several days to learn his schedule, Beamon killed Hunsicker in the shower area of the prison dormitory by approaching him from behind, choking him, and stabbing him 80 times with a homemade shank. Reports said Beamon then rinsed himself off and flushed the shank, a towel, and a pair of boxers, after which he proceeded to dinner.

I got out of Prison in May of 2014 . My old cell mate at Union C.I. was just killed for being a sex offender. Richard was a good guy that would help anyone in need regardless of their crimes. Its a shame a label as a sex offender gets you a death sentence . I had a few people found out I was a sex offender also while in prison , but I just stayed away from the ones who knew and never had any problems. I guess I was lucky !! At Union C.I. , about 75% are sex offenders . If the guards did not like you , they would tell others of your crime , just to cause problems. I knew of a few sex offenders that got pepper sprayed by the guards just for the fun of it !!

Several convicted sex offenders have likewise been murdered in Michigan prisons in recent years. Some of the guards even go out of their way to advertise who the sex offenders are. It’s what happens when society attempts to dehumanize people.

I am not a big fan of capital punishment, but this is actually sets a precedent that can be used against other vigilantes that want to harm a registered citizen in Florida. Keep track of the court case as I am sure it will be appealed.

I find it pretty disturbing the fact that the person killed was a registrant was apparently offered as mitigation evidence. Not by Beamon, but his attorney.

Say what about the prostitute registration/registry? Is this registry for users or givers? Either way, it could be thought of as free advertising complete with pictures and contact information.

      SB 540: Human Trafficking

      https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2019/540

Requiring that the criminal history of a person who is convicted of, or enters a plea of guilty or nolo contendere to, soliciting, inducing, enticing, or procuring another to commit prostitution, lewdness, or assignation be added to the Soliciting for Prostitution Registry.

There is no language in the bill that states the Soliciting for Prostitution Registry will be public. Makes prostitution legally the same as human trafficking.

This is not enough! The inmate was in prison some of them all ready have life or three or four life sentences.. This needs to be address to those outside prison walls like the guy who tried to killed those Register citzens in Kissimmee while at the hotel. Furthermore, All this is window dressing,to please the advocates that fight the good fight. Abolish the registry all together

I agree with you abolish the registry I don’t believe it’s fair after people do their time to spend the rest of their life being almost like an outcast no one should be labeled.
