Maryland: Member Submission
I just found out I have to travel to Maryland next week for a business meeting. So I got online to look at the requirements. Maryland does not have residency restrictions. If that is not good enough, Maryland is actually against residency restrictions for the same reason we fight against them here in Florida. The registry FAQ website is https://www.dpscs.state.md.us/onlineservs/sor/frequently_asked_questions.shtml
Look at FAQ question #15. It spells it out, and even mentions Florida’s inability to track homeless registrants because of our registry laws.
I called them to make sure that also applied to visitors and hotels and it does. I only have to notify them if I am in their state longer than 14 days.
With more and more states starting to get it, I’m amazed at how Florida refuses to look at the truth and continues on with the draconian lifetime punishment attitude.

But yet a tier one other places is a tier two here. Theres still such lack of parity on these topics
Yet id inly have to register if im required to register anywhere else Im done in ny for years yet for a visit to florida im on for life. How is that even fair? If it werent for florida i wouldnt have to be on any list
Maryland seems to get it more than Florida.
But the point is moot.
ALL registries are VIOLATIONS of a person’s rights.
They violate the constitutional rights of a citizen of a US state or territory, their constitutional rights under US federal law, and their international human rights.
Registries are a modern-day Jim Crow!
ALL GOVERNMENT BLACKLISTS must be made illegal!!!
Florida is “All. About The Money” !! When I went to “Update” every move I make with Marion County, And mentioned that other states are improving their llaws, And that Judges are finding the “Registery” is PUNISHMENT and Illegal, The Sgt. Over the Sex Offender Unit told me that even when/if The Supreme Court says the Registery is Illegal, They wouldn’t stop until FORCED to !! Because there is TOO MUCH MONEY involved in it for the Sheriff’s Dept. !!!.
Thanks for your input on Maryland. I’d bet that the state is controlled by Democrats. Seems Republicans love to rule by fear, as we plainly see here in Florida. We can’t even get the state to admit that the “statistics” they used to garner support for their draconian laws are completely false, or at best represent a tiny fraction of offenders that have actually reoffended. My offense occurred over 20 years ago, and I’m 67. I’m fortunate to have found and bought a home in the Homestead area, but what’s going to happen when and if I can’t manage to live alone? We can’t even live in an ALF!
Enjoy your stay in Maryland. Sounds like a great place to move to permanently!
Governor Lawrence J. Hogan, Jr. was sworn in as the 62nd governor of the State of Maryland on January 21, 2015. In 2018, he was overwhelmingly re-elected to a second four-year term, receiving the most votes of any Maryland gubernatorial candidate.
In his first inaugural address, Governor Hogan reminded citizens of Maryland’s history as a state of middle temperament and pledged to advance the best ideas, regardless of which side of the political aisle they come from.
On the other hand, Florida state senator, Lauren Frances Book is a member of the Democratic Party.
I’m not convinced that politics is why one state has different registry requirements than another state. I do think when those like Lauren Book get power, they misuse it and that can make a big difference.
I cannot see where this website indicates that you can reside for 14 days in Maryland before needing to register. Please verify before going!
I travel to Virginia several times a year for work. The Virginia requirement is similar to Maryland’s. You don’t have to register there unless you are physically present in the state for 14 or more consecutive days or for 30 or more days total in a year. The same is true in West Virginia, where I have family.
Of course, I have to register in Florida with 48 hours before and 48 hours after each trip, since the hotel where I stay in Virginia and my father’s home in West Virginia are considered “temporary residences.” Today was one of those days. I had to take more than an hour off from work to travel across Dade County, and will have to do so again on Tuesday of next week when I check back in.
When I was on probation, which is actually a form of punishment, I only had to call my probation officer to let him know I was back in town (no showing up in person was required).
When I was in Virginia for a conference I went to the police station to register. The officer on duty asked me what I wanted her to do? I told her I didn’t know, I was just doing what Florida wanted me to do. She wished me a good stay in Virginia Beach and sent me on my way.
I called them and talked to an officer. Also, the Maryland Public Safety Website states that I have to register if I am there on employment for more than 14 days. If I am just visiting, it’s 7 days. I will be there for 2 days, but less than 48 hours!
Florida is all about imposing laws, rarely common sense laws, and rarely do they remove bad laws. Usually, instead of removing a law, our idiot lawmakers in Flori-duh will re-word a law that has been deemed unconstitutional or some such just enough to keep the law that didn’t need to be passed in the first place. Whatever did people do before registry laws were in place? How did those poor souls survive?
Registries are nothing but big, criminal government running out of control. It is trivial to show that Registries are not needed or significantly beneficial. The stupid “people” who support them don’t care. War must be waged on all “people” who support Registries. They are not Americans and not our fellow citizens.
The stupid “people” who support the registries, laws, regulations ect who dont care WILL when it happens to their family or loved ones!
When caught, the lawmakers rewrite an unconstitutional law, not to put it in to compliance with the Constitution but to be able to say they did something, knowing that the process to challenge it in the legal system will take up much time…hopefully they can be retired before they are called to account for another unconstitutional act on their part.
