The Business of Safety: Follow the Cameras, Ask for the Proof

Yesterday, we shared that Chris Hansen is scheduled on THEjoeSHOW tomorrow. Our earlier post and Behind the Headlines report set the stage. Today, we follow the videos and public records to see what connects the shows, officials, and public money.

Members and fellow advocates have shared concerns with FAC Media. In a comment shared with us, advocate Derek W. Logue of OnceFallen.com wrote:

“He might not have started the vigilante sting trend but he popularized it.”

Children and families deserve safety. That is why we ask what works—not just what makes a strong headline.

Our concern is that fear serves both sides: it gives officials a tough-on-crime platform and gives a commercial show attention that can attract paying viewers. But a dramatic arrest is not proof that children are safer. We should measure protection by results, not headlines or subscriptions.

Where the business and public work meet

TruBlu’s launch release names Hansen as a co-founder. In the Martin County briefing, he describes working with police and says the stories air on TruBlu. The sheriff also discusses publicity and parent education. Hear them at 2:56 and 9:22.

We found real Florida money: a $55,000 online-sting grant award to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for equipment and software. That is not a documented payment to Hansen or TruBlu. Our review has not established one. But the question does not end with cash: what terms govern filming access, and who covers the costs?

How the sheriff partnership began

Hansen says the Martin County team-up grew from a podcast visit. He then pitched working with Takedown. The interview led to a police-and-TV project.

Florida’s attorney general

Hansen asks James Uthmeier about Roblox. The video credits footage to the attorney general’s office. This documents an interview—not a private deal.

Rep. Luna’s invitation

Anna Paulina Luna invites Hansen to Pinellas County and proposes visiting a mobile-home park. This is an on-air invitation, not proof the visit happened.

What Hansen says about fear

Asked about tougher penalties, Hansen says he has not seen a change in people arriving, though he still supports severe punishment in some cases. That raises a fair question: if fear is not changing what he sees, why keep relying on the same approach?

Children deserve protection. But we must also ask what happens to families when an arrest becomes a public show. What happens to their children, homes and jobs? Could a different approach protect children while causing less harm?

We should not treat every person or case as the same. Look at the evidence, question the methods, and measure safety by results—not by how many lives become a headline.

Florida money: records and limits

The Marion County award is FDLE contract OS006, signed December 18, 2024: $54,480 for equipment and $520 for software. The reviewed payment ledger totals $39,864.10 after an adjustment; the $55,000 award is not a claim that all funds were paid. The grant record does not identify Hansen or TruBlu as a payee. Official contract and payment record.

We reviewed 13,293,528 validated rows from Florida’s state vendor-payment files for fiscal years 2023–2026, with listed payment dates from July 5, 2022 through July 2, 2026. We also searched Florida’s public contract database. No verified recipient match was found for Hansen, TruBlu, Transition Studios, HVE Media, or Shawn Rech. Similar names belonged to other vendors.

That is not proof that no payment exists. These state records do not cover every sheriff’s payment ledger, invoice, reimbursement, or production agreement. The Marion award also does not establish the cost of any particular televised operation.

The final April 11, 2024 HB 1131 staff report mentions Takedown and work with Polk County. It describes grants to local law-enforcement agencies for equipment, software, and supplies—not an award to Hansen.

The missing link would be the actual sheriff payment records and filming terms. Each office has its own records: Polk, Marion, and Martin. County commission totals alone do not answer that question.

More source records

TruBlu’s June 2023 release names work with Polk Sheriff Grady Judd. Its February 2026 release still describes a subscription service. The releases do not disclose sheriff compensation, Hansen’s earnings, or the shows’ profits.

Historical prices: the February 2023 launch release advertised $4.99 monthly or $49.99 annually. These are not verified current prices, revenue, or profit figures.

The Martin briefing reported six arrests. At 12:54, the sheriff said none were already on the registry. Those figures describe that operation only; arrests are not convictions.

Hansen also testified before a U.S. House panel in June 2006 and answered Florida Rep. Cliff Stearns. The official hearing record proves public testimony—not a private friendship or a role in writing a law. The publisher’s Luna episode listing also confirms her appearance.

Other public appearances

On the Harford County Sheriff’s Office podcast, an April 24, 2026 episode recounts how command training in Polk County led to a Hansen partnership. This is an agency account of a connection—not proof that Hansen taught that training. Episode locator.

Child Rescue Coalition’s Q&A with Hansen promotes his appearance at its February 21, 2026 Delray Beach gala. That is a fundraising event, not ICAC training.

Outside Florida, a police newsletter identifies Hansen as a guest speaker at the March 24, 2022 AMBER Alert Conference in Independence, Ohio, attended by more than 400 law-enforcement personnel. These sources show public appearances and connections. They do not establish that Hansen was an ICAC instructor or received public money.

Bring your own fact-based questions

Hansen is scheduled to appear tomorrow, Monday, October 26, at 8:10 a.m. Eastern on THEjoeSHOW, 93.3 FLZ. We hope these videos and records help you form your own questions. Here are three starting points:

  • What do the contracts say about filming access, editing, and costs?
  • What evidence shows less abuse—not just more arrests?
  • How are full records preserved and fair court proceedings protected?

If the show takes listener calls, speak respectfully, keep it brief, and ask for clear answers. The station lists 800-409-9393 as its general call-in number. That does not guarantee calls during Hansen’s appearance. Show announcement.

He will not. After January 1, 2024 the statutory provisions establishing the “solicitation of prostitution” database were repealed. The repeal removed § 943.0433 and § 796.07(5)(e), which governed the database.

He sets people up mostly men just like cops do. I never ever had any intents of meeting anyone in person. I still wished when I had opportunity I had ended my life. Being on the registry is punishment.
