Sheriffs Offices Pursuing Petty Offenses
In the past few months, Florida Sheriff’s Offices are looking for low-hanging fruit by going after some very petty offenses. Volusia County issued a press release today announcing the arrest of “76 Volusia County Sex Offenders and Predators”, but when you dig into the details, you will find that very few – just a few – were arrested for a new sex offense. Most were for technical registration violations or some pretty petty crimes. One of the 76, for example, was charged with having a caged racoon.
According to a Sheriff’s office spokesperson, the operation (called “Operation Neptune”) was said to last three-months! That’s a lot of time! The U.S. Marshals Service and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement assisted in the operation. That’s a lot of resources!
What most stories don’t promote is that hundreds (representing more than 9/10ths) of the checks they did, were completely compliant.
A few months ago, in Polk County, “Operation Karma” yielded 26 arrests, most were for failure to register a co-habitant’s vehicle. A violation of a law that many arrested had no clue about. Sheriff Grady Judd told WFTV, “The big question I have is why are these people not reporting these cars or their online identities? They are apparently up to no good and we are going to hold them accountable.” It seems nobody was caught being “up to no good”, they were just trapped by some confusing registration requirements.
And here’s a worst and one that we intend to follow up on… Earlier this month, Steven Williams, a homeless registrant from Brevard County was arrested for eating breakfast at a Burger King – a benign act, but the Burger King was apparently within 1000 feet of a tennis court! If anyone has access to this individual, please contact [email protected].

so the Shethead thinks these reg. laws are probation what an astwhole!!!
“We have a registration system for a reason,” Sheriff Mike Chitwood said. “We need to know where sex offenders and predators are living in our community, what vehicles they drive, and whether they’re complying with the conditions of their release. That’s part of our responsibility to protect Volusia County, and registered offenders and predators should know that we’ll be coming around again in the future.”
I see that an individual below was arrested for, among other things,
failure to register an account that he did not access and did not use to communicate with anyone, and
failure to correct an FDLE error identifying a vehicle he was never associated with and never registered.
If that is accurate, then he needs to contact [email protected] ASAP for a referral.
As a non-lawyer, I am aware of nothing in the law that exposes one to legal liability for such things.
(There was also a third item regarding a supposed employer or volunteer position, but there was so much content there, my little mind couldn’t follow it).
Please Look up Lake County’s Arrest Reports, I was just recently Arrested, on 3 Charges, YES all 3 were “Technicalities”
(1) Operating a Business and Not Reporting it.
Me and two Other Parents Started a Training Club for Our Kids, Outside, We then had other Parents from our Church wanting their Kids to train with Our Kids, We ended up with A Bunch oh Homeschooled Kids that wanted to learn how to play sports better. So we decided to Created a Christian Name, We came up with “Genesis 360 Sports Club” and to make sure No One Stole our Name, We Registered it with the State, under Fictitious Names. We NEVER opened a Business Account, NEVER Made a cent off the Club, Our Mission was to take average kids and Make them good enough to try out and Make their School teams.. After a Year of training kids outside, we found a Gym, and Because we had to pay rent to use the Gym, we asked Parents to pay 45 Dollars per family, NOT Child, just so we had help paying for the Gym… We NEVER had enough parents Paying, but we still allowed their kids to train….. We even tried holding a Basketball league, because a lot of Homeschool parents asked us to…It didn’t’ work, because not enough kids signed up to have enough teams to compete, so instead we just trained the ones that wanted to get better. And we still train them today… Parents are aware of my past record, which is 23 years old, I’ve never re-offended, just a few technicalities. 1st Being when my wife and I seperated, I was sleeping in the Driveway of the home we stayed in with her parents, he mother decided to go down to the LCSO and report that I wasn’t living in the home and to remove her address from their Database since I wasn’t living in the house anymore. And when she told me her mother went down there, I went to tell them I was living in the Driveway, they Arrested me on the Spot, this was 13 years ago, now fast forward to today, another arrest and these 3 charges, again Technicalities…. Imagine that…..an offender Making a difference in the community, and they care NOTHING about that, these same kids we mentor with Christian values and motivate to be better humans mean nothing to them, these future “Non- Arrests” we train and motivate mean NOTHING!. Just keep trying to Lock up “The Offender” it looks good on someones Resume.
(2) Not Reporting my Family Facebook Page:
I was under the impression they meant Web Pages I operated, not family social media pages, and ot Sports Facebook page is managed by a few of the Parents, I do comment on there….SO I guess that’s wrong.
(3) Not Having My Car Registered: On FDLE Site, The Car in Question is Clearly on there 2009 BMW Silver/Aluminum
MY Wifes Car isn’t even on there 2004 Subaru Outback. Which is on the Lake County Sheriff’s Database when I register each year.
But FDLE Page, Instead shows a Green 1995 Honda, I’ve NEVER Owned, and that car I never Owned has no Plate associated with it?
Why have they NEVER looked into this car? They’ve NEVER seen this Green Honda at my HOUSE, and they’ve NEVER asked about it? esp. since it has NO TAG listed on their Web Site???
How did they find out about all that? Arrested for having a car on there thats not yours? A “business” thats not a job?
You can request this removed I know you need someone to talk to but no matter how good of person you are they are gonna get something from you and the less you say the better. I’m saying this cause I raised kids years ago on it and couldn’t imagine something like this popping up in my life then raising kids the debt I was in the lives I was in charge of I lived a normal life but these days are a lot harder man keep your head up!
Chuvalo Mason,
AT THE CURRENT ENVIRONMENT and you already been convicted of some type of sex crime as soon as the enforcers get a slight scent of someone with your history is hanging out with kids, bonding with kids, etc… they will come after you with everything they have! you do have hope if you take it all to trial and can get church pastor and 10-20 others from church to testify on your behalf as Lake County loves the church. trust me; I know of a pastor that was on trial for a bunch of sex crimes and 3/4 of the Jury did not want to convict because a man of God could not do those things a few years later he was arrested again and took a plea.
BUT YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER THEN TO PUT YOURSELF IN THAT POSITION!
I have a rental property and I will never go there alone. let alone be surrounded by kids. all it takes is one accuser and your goose is cooked for life! Don’t matter if your original offence was 50 years ago!
This is called statistics based policing. They run these operations to build stats, which in turn justify their budgets. It has absolutely nothing to do with justice.
So sadden by the ignorance of this registry. I say to myself what other place could we go, A so called happy place you can call home. -USA – where there is no Sorna registry. A place where people are nice and call you by your first name and not treat you like a second class citizen. A place where you don’t have to be escorted by the local sheriff office because you decided to go to your daughters first day of school….
I don’t find any specific ordinance for registered citizens in Volusia County, but there’s a 2,500 footer for the city of Daytona Beach:
