Suspect came to Lubbock to ‘kill a child molester,’ court records say
A witness told detectives that Joseph Barrera, 25, went to Lubbock to “kill a child molester that lived in the neighborhood,” court documents obtained by EverythingLubbock.com on Friday revealed.
Police were called to the 5000 block of 38th Street around 11:08 p.m. on July 15. Officers arrived and found Richard Paul, 61, with a single gunshot wound and pronounced dead at the scene.
Another witness told detectives that Barrera said he was in Lubbock to babysit for a family member, but said the actual purpose was to “kill a child molester that lived in the neighborhood,” court documents stated.

Well….whoever knocks on my door and just try or attempts to put my life or the life of my family in danger, will very quickly realize the ginormous mistake he/she made. Whoever is, will not live long enough to tell the tale. That…I can pretty much promise.
If anyone is still asleep on this issue, please get the word out to have a home safety plan in place.
The most important thing you can do, based on the pattern we see, is hardening your front door. This is where most of the homicides occur. Do this:
1. Buy additional security hardware to make your door less susceptible to forced entry.
2. Buy a door-bell camera to handle all interactions with visitors at your door. Do not open the door for anyone you don’t know and trust.
3. If you are not allowed on the Internet, install a peephole or other substitute for a doorbell camera like a closed circuit monitor. Talk through the door. Never open it for unknown individuals.
3. Obtain the best self-defense tools you can legally possess, and have them at the ready during interactions with unknown individuals at your door.
I would also add, if you are able, engage in physical training so you can have the physical capacity to repel any invader who breaches your home. If you are older or have a chronic illness and do not have a family member who can screen visitors for you, it becomes even more important to have the best self-defense tools you can own.
Even if we never encounter someone bent on harming us, just having it widely known that we are not easy soft targets will deter most of these wackos from even showing up at someone’s house. There’s no excuse anymore to rationalize away the need for preparedness.
Was thinking of having an attorney draw up a lawsuit against FDLE and the State Legislative body in case something like this ever happens to me. Looks like this event sad to say is another example for the FAC lawsuit.
