The Media’s Job

Media is responsible for shaping the way the public feels and thinks about certain subjects. Whether it is a taped interview or the written word – media outlets are aware that their words matter and truly impact the communities they work in.

In Florida, SOs have plenty to worry about while combating draconian legislation. They should not have to worry about media outlets taking biased positions and advocating for further legal restrictions of their rights. An article published by Local 10 does just that, by printing positions that advocate for the publishing of employment addresses for registered SOs along side their already published residency addresses. The article insinuates community members are not safe with the amount of information that is currently published and more is needed. Author Ross Palombo opens up a dialogue within the community that resulted in the comments of infamous “Valigator” who does nothing to positively further the conversation. Her comments in the past have done nothing to create a safer Florida. The discussion that ensued underneath in the comment section only serves to demonstrate that no positive steps can be taken when journalism takes on this form. It is a prime example of how biased writing only contributes to negative relationships within communities and stirs up unneeded problems.

These important issues should be approached by rational adults that are able to provide something factual and positive. At the end of the day, everyone is interested in creating a safer environment for citizens of all ages. Sloppy journalism does not contribute to the creation of a safer and more civilized society. It serves only to further provoke already enraged and misinformed citizens. In order to fix a broken legislative system, informed conversations need to occur. It is the media’s responsibility to approach this issue without bias and full of facts that can help the public become more enlightened.

Not surprised to see that it was local 10 news (ABC ) …they are the struggling media channel out of the big four…fox 7 having the more traffic. So they need once in and every often any material that can garner the publics attention. Sex crimes…. I don’t watch ABC not only because they are the weaker media but they to personally are boring…from news to TV shows.

    This certainly happened to me.

A story was done on my county’s new ordinances and when I attended the meeting to speak I became the story.

I can’t attach pics here… But the news channel’s facebook page allowed me and my family to face death threats and calls to have my son taken from me. My favorite was the guy who posted about ten pictures of a smoking shot gun calling for me to be murdered.

FYI: I have no victim. I was arrested in a police sting. I never touched anyone (nor did I have the inclination to)
