WV: Large number of Flock ‘hits’ tied to sex offenders, not active investigations
During a recent information session, representatives of the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department said the county’s 20 Flock Safety license plate reader cameras captured some 572,370 unique license plate images over a 30-day period.
The department gets a number of hits through the NCIC that it never investigates because the plates are tied to known sex offenders and not an active crime or investigation. “If you’re a registered sex offender, you’re in NCIC. So every time a sex offender drives by these cameras, they go off,” Ralston said, explaining more hits are generated by sex offenders than anything else.
By way of example, he showed all the NCIC hits that officers were alerted to between July 1 and July 17. During that time, 135 hits were sex offenders.

The article reports on internal emails obtained through a public records request showing why the city of Verona, Wisconsin, covered its Flock Safety automated license plate cameras with black plastic bags instead of removing them immediately. After the city council voted not to renew its contract, officials repeatedly asked Flock to remove the equipment. According to the emails, Flock objected to the city removing the cameras itself, and company representatives were initially unsure whether the cameras could be remotely deactivated.

Lowes home improvment stores have Flock cameras at all their ingress and egress points. They must have an “agreement” or lucrative nationwide contract with Flock. I’m sure it was done to identify and catch shoplifting rings and theft, but anyone one the “list” is going to get flagged going there.
So just a heads up. your local pig pen absolutely knows when you go to Lowes. Because we always need materials for our subterranean torture bunkers with, right?
So far, none of our members have reported any incidents or problems at Lowe’s.
Without this system, they wouldn’t know where the PFR is they state. Why do they feel they need to know where the PFR is at the moment the image is captured if there is no need to know? That is the question no one is asking these entities that rely on Flock cameras because as they state it, that is the basis of a surveillance state. If there isn’t an active need to know, then why does one need to know where anyone is regardless of who they are and what their history is? This is why states are banning and have banned license plate covers which distort or hide the license plate data. People need to start asking these hard hitting questions of those entities, e.g., LE, elected, HOA, etc, who employ these resources.
The really sad thing is I read the other day where Flock is getting ditched in favor of overhead drones being flown to do the same mission. The surveillance state moves from one system to another where they are working to evade those who may notice cameras on the side of the road, whether on poles or embedded in yellow safety barrels, in an effort to evade the public who pays their bills and has their constitutional rights.
It’s just a matter of time before Florida law enforcement starts to run report queries in the database showing geographic proximity of sex offenders in the new sb212 exclusion zones for warrantless arrest. If it doesn’t happen statewide it’ll certainly happen in one of these Podunk counties where Deputy Doolittle wants to run for Sheriff one day and be the social media hero of the week by arresting somebody for driving near or working near one of these freshly minted exclusion zones. There are no national rules governing these flock cameras at all. All this article does is just highlight the fact that it’s department by department discretion. NOT GOOD
I know here in Leon county they are no longer funding the Flock Cameras due to issues
Well that’s a little bit of good news. Thank you for sharing. It’s hard to tell what’s going on so much is happening right now. Definitely a head spinning moment for those of us on the registry!
I would caution calling us sex offenders. I am an ex-offender. Stating we are sex offenders seems to allude to us still offending. Not only others call us that, but I see members on here calling us sex offenders. “Oh, I am not a predator, I am an offender”. Personally, since I have not offended in 35 years, I think I can ditch that moniker.
On a side note, the public, the police and others still call us offenders, implying we are still actively offending, lurking and just waiting for our next prey like a coyote to pounce for an opportunity.
I thought the term now was PFR. I assume that was never put out in a memo thru the police force.

People on the list should use: LINO = Label In Name Only. That dilutes the current seriousness and urgency of the implied CURRENT danger of the label the media and lawmakers push on the public.
It’s a misnomer to label someone a “SO” when they’re not actively offending in the present. We still call someone that took another’s life a “murder” when it should be “past murderer.” Why is society so hung up on present participle semantics?

That is ok i seen Volusia County Started a Domestic Violence Hit List along with there pet abuse website 🙂 they will be getting many more hits lol 🙂 it’s coming! i can’t wait until they start a Impaired Driving/Boating website/ btw if all of this is to protect the children i would think there would have been a child abuse website opps hit list as well lol i say keep them coming! i think the reason there is no DUI Hit list yet is because to much back lash from the drunken politicians!
Is this list retroactive or just once you commit the offense? Secondly do they have to report if start dating someone new?
