Florida County to seek first known death penalty for sexual abuse of a minor.
In a first known case since Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a new law authorizing the death penalty for a sex offense, a Putnam County man will be facing the death penalty for alleged sexual abuse.
The accused, who had a prior (from 2010) sexual assault conviction, is being charged with the sexual assault of two minors in Putnam.

To make the perp out to be a victim is pure BS. When you know better you are to do better, no after thoughts. AS A PERSON WHAT WAS DONE TO YOU, SHOULD BE ENOUGH TO NOT HURT SOMEONE else IN THE SAME MANNER, CALLED COMMON SENSE, EMPATHY AND SYMPATHY FOR ANOTHER HUMAN BEING. If you don’t understand that than death is upon you sooner or later. I predict in the next 5 years people will start to use total street justice against these Pedophiles and the and the lovers who support them.
Did you go apologize to ALL of your victims that you have hurt for a LIFETIME? If you didn’t your words fall on deaf ears here on this thread. You should be made to pay back every single one of them monetarily too. BTW WHY DID YOU START MOLESTING KIDS OR WHAT EVER YOU DID?

If the registry had remained just that, a list known only to LEO. I would agree with my Walmart law degree that the registry is civil and not punishment. I oppose the death penalty for reasons listed earlier. But at its core the death penalty is about vengeance and not justice. If the allegations are true in the Putnam case, life in prison effectively removes the threat to society. Obviously the registry failed.
For a repeat offender having this penalty as a possibility might be the right answer. That being said there are many people in the mob wanting the wood chipper to be used immediately upon allegation. There must be a balance and the Balance must be just. I do not know the details of the Putnam Country case however it is a repeat offense and that means that it was neither isolated nor was it a one time “mistake”.
And before anyone decides to call me a troll I urge you to look in the mirror. As a PFR I do not believe in the registry being public but I do not oppose the LEO keeping a registry. I do not support the hoops that keep changing and the registry being another form od ex post facto probation but I do not see an issue with having to let LEO know where I live. I do not break the law and have nothing to cause them to harass me.
james …. here are characteristics of Sex predator:
They are charming and persuasive
They have a grandiose sense of self-worth
They are often deceitful and manipulative
They have a lack of empathy for others
They are often aggressive and domineering
They crave power and control over others
They believe everything is owed to them and are entitled to special treatment
They have a right to do whatever they want without any push-back.
They are always a victims
So how do you assess whether a person harbors those characteristics?
By looking them up in a government-run sex registry?
Of course not!
You have probably met people who exhibit all or most of those characteristics. Most of them are not labelled “sexual predators” by the state, are they?
But you don’t have to have ANY of those characteristics to be designated Sexual Predator by the State of Florida.
Some Florida-designated sexual predators do have those characteristics, some of them don’t, some of them did decades ago but at some point changed their lifestyle and outlook.
So you are probably spot-on with the psychological definition of a sexual predator. On this forum, though, we are usually grappling with the legal definition, which is not the same thing and should be re-examined.

I know when I see one..elementary my dear friend.
Which means that you don’t know.
You cannot spot us in a crowd. In fact, we are all around you every day.
We are the person behind you at the red light who honked impatiently.
We are the person sitting next to you in the Doctor’s office lobby.
We are the person in front of you in the supermarket line who let you go first because you only had 3 items.
We are the person 2 rows behind you in the movie theater.
So stop with the drama! You are intent on being a professional victim for the rest of your life. We get that. It’s obvious. All you want to do is to cause pain with your words.
But make no mistake: We are everywhere – all around you – everywhere. (mwa ha ha ha !!)
Jjj
Correct and I’m one of them….aahaahaa
You don’t know anything about it, I am afraid.
I am one of the “worst of the worst”, yet I have gone through therapy and emerged on the other side with purpose and meaning (and contrition, of course). I have found God’s forgiveness, and I have found a spiritually rich life.
God forgave me, freely. WHY CAN’T YOU? (You merciless Pharisee!! – btw: I am being nice and not calling you the names I’d really like to!)
PS: I am also materially rich, too. And I got out of prison with NOTHING But God blessed me, and I worked hard.
I didn’t use the word cretin, did I?
It seems to me that the “why “is a very important question and not just the “what” to determine society’s appropriate response.. Please before judging Let’s take a little trip down thought alley.. Too often our justice system is about revenge and absolutely lacks any justice.
As one commenter aptly pointed out ‘“Many victims commit suicide or repeat what was done to them out of anger.” Ill add often it’s not just anger but confusion, and for youthful victims its often actually misplaced love and a desire to be loved that causes them to act as an adult out and treat others the way they were treated as a child.
in short sexual nature crimes often are circular, with what was he victim becoming the future perpetrator. What do we know about the history of the perpetrator? Is it possible the perpetrator was ounce also a victim? Past evidence says that is very possibly the case. It doesnt excuse the fact a crime has been committed and a punishment needs to be administered BUT if its the case it should also weigh into the sentencing.. If this person is a victim and a perpetrator can we even say they were in their right mind when we know they are damaged?
