Sen. Lauren Book says no child can be kept safe by DCF
Last year, Senator Lauren Book proposed a bill that enabled DCF (Department of Children and Families) to take a child away from their registrant (person required to register as a sex offender) parent. The bill would have created a rebuttable presumption of dangerousness, thereby allowing for the child’s removal and placement in DCF custody while the registrant parent would have to prove he’s not dangerous in order to get his child back.
No allegations of sexual assault against the removed child and it didn’t matter how long ago the registrant committed their crime.
This year, that same senator, in a statement following the death of a toddler in DCF custody is saying, “ I do not have any confidence that other vulnerable individuals across the state can be kept safe by DCF.”
To any registrant with children, last year’s proposed bill was sick and scary. Thankfully it didn’t pass. Now she’s essentially calling the agency charged with removing our children inept!
It’s scary to have a person with such little experience or insight and who is willfully blind to research or expert opinion, in a position of power.

Yes we are sorry for what happen to her but it isn’t everyone fault taking innocent kids away can damage them for life i was a foster parent who also had other sibling older then them you have no clue how messed up they get not understanding why what they did then their is trust issues what happen to lauren is tragic but it isnt everyones fault need to relook into everything before you want laws if they would of took her from her parents can you say for sure that wouldn’t had happen all ones on registery aren’t predators or dangerous to anyone they are on for being on sites talking to adults yes sex sting. No one knows what was intend so registery isn’t right for anyone not protecting anyone the dna that police dept has does get them if reoffend which most know their victimins what about 14 yrs old having babies how did that happen should be laws for that
My brief she needs to step back from political play-ground she and her father created. What they really need to do is to find another outlet to vent their anger. Perhaps they could used their influence to go after those who failed to pay child support, Since they are so concern about a child’s welfare and being
Hmmm, maybe those new voters would finally come around and get those out of office who have become useless!!
I Just bought “Untouchable”. Very hard to watch for many reasons but one thing became clear. Ron Book used his power initially for justice but now its all about vengeance. I am sure in his own mind he feels justified in this but what he does not see is the poison that comes from him now. I can also see in the documentary how that poison has spilled onto and is now evident in the daughter he no doubt loves very much. It is terrible to see the damage done to them but they have themselves become a monster like the one they want to destroy. This is very sad and frankly, very pathetic.
Justice mandates punishment with fines, duration of punishment or both. Among the synonyms for justice are fairness, fair play, lack of bias, decency and integrity, objectivity and neutrality just to name a few. Among the synonyms for vengeance are revenge, retribution, retaliation, nemesis and satisfaction.
While justice fulfills the letter of the law, vengeance is rarely fulfilled and can be a never ending lust to cause harm and pain. The Books’ unrelenting pursuit of vengeance is an understandable, base expression of human nature. They need emotional and spiritual healing. The professional monetizing of their plight and misrepresentation of data, that is just downright dishonest and they should be held accountable.
Untouchable documentary a must see! What I learned about Ron Book:
If his daughter was shot instead of abused, Florida would have the most restrictive gun laws in the U.S.
Most Florida politicians are afraid of challenging him for fear of losing what he feeds them.
“Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely” Abraham Lincoln quote.
Legislation like Book’s proposed bill scares me beyond belief. Is there any information on how close this proposed bill came to passing? Did it make it to the House floor??
This is another indicator of how the State if Florida has gotten to the point it has with all the RSO statues and local ordinances. We all read how heavy handed Florida is in comparison to other states. I would be curious to know if Rep. Book’s proposal was based on any sound, CURRENT peer reviewed studies or if she still relies on older disproven materials. Unfortunately it’s most likely based on existing public fear and misunderstanding.
I feel that we have to be concerned with the results of the most recent elections and the conservative nature of the candidates elected. This is not a commentary in any of the individuals, simply that a majority of them are heavily tilted to the conservative strong “law and order” end of the spectrum. I fear that elected officials like Lauren Book, buoyed by ultra-conservatives like her father Ron Book, will be able to push through bills that are not based on any sound scientific studies but on political expediency and fear tactics.
If our state does move towards Book’s direction we could be dealing with issues like they currently deal with in Broward county but on a statewide level. That’s scary.
Apparently, the Book family couldnt keep their small family safe either. I believe that DCF has a better percentage at doing so!
They are obviously mentally scarred and should be tested for PTSD and other issues that could cause a conflict of interest for all people in the state of Florida.
I feel bad that this happened to this family. I believe based on actions and words that their mental health has rendered them unfit to lobby and serve the cotizens of Florida.
I guess we can consider it a proven fact that at least one-third of children under the care and custody of Ron Book were sexually abused. That’s a pretty scary statistic.
Good point FAC! When in custody of birth parents the children were safest! I choose to live modestly so my children could live with stay at home mom. My children were never abused. The proposal that “Since my children were abused by a nanny, so more children should be taken from birth parents and live with a nanny”, suggests “misery loves company”.
I agree with that did any of them do couciling after ron found out well maybe they should put themself in the shoes of registery councilinv every week drug testing polygraph like the research says predators know their victimins alot are on sex registery they never had amny victimin they were on a site for adults sex sting read tampa st petersnurg aug 8 2014 on sex stings so yes i agree with these others comments
You reap what you sow my friends. She wanted this and it has backfired now. Lauren Book should slow down. As a senator, she should turn her focus on other real problems facing the state of Florida – and no, it doesn’t include registered citizens.
Yes she should but she needs to undo some of her and her dads damages
Indeed she does.
