‘Sex-bots’ – Good or Bad?

An interesting opinion piece just came out on Newsweek. the opinion is that “Sex Robots Could Empower Pedophiles and Sex Offenders”.

Sex robots (or ‘Sex-bots’) are anatomically correct sex toys with features designed to simulate real human characteristics. Imagine a cross between a blow-up doll and Teddy Ruxpin, but with all the latest technology.

They make ‘sex-bots’ to appeal to a wide variety of preferences, including race and gender. But they also make some robots which many people feel “cross the line”, most specifically ‘pedo-bots’ which are made to appear like children.

On one end of the argument; these ‘bots’ can produce “harm limitation”, meaning someone who has a sexual inclination, can “get whatever they need out of their system” with a robot, rather than seeking out an actual person. Similar to the use of dildos or vibrators – one would use them for gratification, rather than engaging in behavior that could be risky.

On the other end of the argument is that these ‘bots’ can lead to actual offending. Once someone gets tired of their robot, they may actually seek out a live victim. Like the argument that pornography is a “gateway” to actual offending.

The opinion piece was prompted by a study I, Sex Robot: the health implications of the sex robot industry that study analyzed the ‘sex-bot’ industry and asks whether the bots promote safer sex, have therapeutic value, can be used to treat people with deviant urges. Their conclusion was that it’s too early to tell whether there’s any medical/therapeutic benefit to sex-bots or whether these new sex toys will lead to more harm.

What do you think? Chime in below.

i think my fear is that our new generation has already lost the perception of reality, everyone is so desensitized to real life as it is, most can not hold a conversation unless its via text, everything in the world is virtual reality, you throw in sex-bots, if even furthers the distorted reality. they have already lost empathy due to VR games, human life does really hold any value to them , they are characters in a game, sex-bots I fear would further desensitize them creating more sexual assaults. Kind of like the games have done with all the school shootings. Just my opinion

As sexbots exist now, you are right. But what about the future, when AI is so advanced, you have creatures like “Mia” who was programmed for many different servant roles, ex being just one of them. I would buy a “Mia” in a heartbeat and simply marry her.

You mark my words. In the next year or 2, some idiot Florida politician, or maybe even Lauren’s new bill for 2019 will involved prohibiting RSOs from purchasing sex-bots. If an RSO is found with one, they will get 6 months of mandatory monitoring. And of course, the sex bot will be confiscated. You watch.

Oh BTW, this is just the kind of thing that would precipitate the demise of the species since real people will be obsolete. The birth rates are already dropping …

That’s the first thought I had I am sure this will be on next years agenda, Florida has already declared porn a health crisis whatever that means.

Personally I think the whole idea is stupid, just another way technology is desocializing society.

Holy Cow! Wasn’t even on our radar. Too silly to think of, except I guess she did.
        Thankfully the bill died!

Not shocking. What is shocking is that it died in criminal justice, yet changing residency days from 5 to 3 days soared through without objection.

If we go by the common sense narrative this would of been a no brainer right?

That bill was so vague it could have applied to Barbie Dolls

Never encountered a “gateway” for anything. I suppose one has a predilection towards something or they don’t. I’ve masterbated most of my life, with and without pornographic materials, and even being put on the registry for something I didn’t do, I still could never cross that line. It’s kinda like having a business: you just keep certain things separate. So if the wife wanted to bring in some visual aids, well, whatevs, but if she started bringing in stuffed animals, diapers, and cheese whiz, that’s a bit far.

    Different strokes for different folks.

OK 1. gross and 2. Noooo i thought the whole goal of therapy and rehab was to stay away from anything and everything that tempted you?? How long before the doll isnt enough?? very bad idea

Perhaps YOU need to stay away from such things but I think that the vast majority of people can – for example – watch a violent movie without going out and killing a bunch or people. I am also relatively certain that most can watch a movie about a bank robbery without going out the next day and doing that either.

So…if one were going to purchase a doll for the purpose a masturbation (basically expensive sex toy) I do not think that they will go out the next day and have sex with (fill in the blank here).

The whole “gateway” drug propaganda is just that – propaganda. Don’t buy into the governments rhetoric.

Imagine if men and women would be able to program their bots as they wish to. A perfect date, a perfect lover, etc. etc.

Dating or sex with real people would probably become a thing of the past. No more going through the trouble of “the process”, you can create it now. Imagine avoiding rejection and heart breaks. The more technology advances the more sophisticated the robots become. Expensive now, but if it becomes the norm at some point, it will most likely cheapen.

Then wait until artificial intelligence (which tech companies are rigorously working on) gets integrated into the sex bots. Then it’s a whole other world of possibilities.

The above is just a quick thought. I wouldn’t know myself until we’re there at that point. It can be a good thing, but of course like everything else, I’m sure there would be cons to the pros.

“Sex Bot” have been around for a long time, Howard Stern used to have people on who bragged about the “relationships” they had with their dolls, and that was more than twenty years ago. In the beginning they were fairly primitive, or artificial looking, but lately, in still photographs they do appear as real people. There are people out there who wish to “criminalize” all forms of this industry as if it involved real human beings, and they will try to conflate this activity as being a “gateway” to real crimes. This attitude and “goody-two shoes” type of movement is what has led us to all the current miseries that gave rise to the necessity and need for NARSOL These types of censorial controls on our society is what led to the founding of our very nation. It’s what our Bill of Rights” is all about-or was, until SCOTUS began giving in to political pressures and re-interpreting the law as to all but scuttle our protections in law. The entrapment law has basically been de-clawed and de-toothed to where it is metaphorically nothing but a dead crocodile with extracted teeth. The RICO legislation defines almost any type of collusory activity as “conspiracy” with heavy criminal penalties. “necessary” we are told after the fact, to bring down the Mafia families on the two coasts. But no one has brought down organized crime and it’s activities; they just don’t call perps “mafiosos” anymore; all RICO has done has driven it underground and guaranteed a new spate of PROFESSIONALLY covered-up killings to make SURE there are no witnesses. The same way the child porn laws and the penalties for those offenses incentivize their perpetrators to “leave no witnesses alive” to testify against them.
