Vigilante uses signs to get neighbor to move.

An Ohio resident is unhappy that his neighbor is a registrant, so he has posted a banner on his property and pointing to the neighbor’s house, asking travelers down the street to honk and telling his neighbor to move.
This type of vigilantism is not just a nuisance, but it invites the public to harass the registrant by honking at all hours. Eventually someone will do something more nefarious.
Vigilantism is getting more creative every day and they say this is not punishment!

    addendum:

the weirdest part to me is that I see headlines of parents killing their own children all the time. Where is the registry for child killers? really splitting hairs here.

If we’re being honest with ourselves; the registry does nothing to prevent crime. Especially at its ridiculous and ever-expanding cost to the American taxpayer. Law Enforcement is paid in so many different ways it would blow your mind if you stopped to think of it.

Awards and ceremonies (at the taxpayers expense), tuition/student loans(at the taxpayers expense), Reduction in rent and mortgage(if it’s a hiring incentive then it is also at the taxpayers expense), increase in rank/paygrade(at the taxpayers expense), unnecessary overtime that is often welcomed by LE(at the taxpayers expense) and they get to virtue signal whenever it is convenient. I promise you, if the payroll stops funding this registry circus. None will enforce it for free. Are they really “fighting crime” or just milking money by harassing a statistically non-violent and non-recidivist populous?

In this chat we’ve batted back and forth the idea of why there isn’t a homicide registry. My sincere theory is that to have a registry for homicide would make future would-be enlisted personnel not desire to be associated with that social stigma(much like our current s.o./ registry). That would hurt enlistment levels. Here’s a fun fact: every territory the U.S. army has entered it has left behind a military base (of a suitable branch). For the purpose of intelligence gathering, resources, interpolitical treaty and sanction enforcement. If you don’t have enough troops you enter a “critical Staffing level” if you stay at or under that level for a certain amount of time, you have to abandon/relocate/destroy your base. Costing you more in resources and data than any registry.

so no, I don’t think we’ll ever see a registry for murderers.

The registry is simply a data collection tool.

    sorry for the rant.

Honestly, I’m seeing the titular phrase “sex offender” so much. It feels like its lost all meaning. What is a sex offender anymore? It’s a guy you don’t like.

What a coward. That poor neighbor forces himself to erect that sign every morning and take it down every night, just because he’s scared. Meanwhile, that former offender gets to live rent-free inside the neighbor’s head.

It is his bully pulpit because he feels like a man this way and no other ways.

The focus needs to be on those so-called vigilantes who are doing this. They are typically the ones who have a lot to hide and use this to distract and as a cover up for themselves. They are people who look for excuses to justify hate and violence. Therefore, they are the ones who pose a real danger to the public. Their addiction to justifying hate and violence will only continue to grow, and their behaviors will get worse. So, they need to be stopped. The focus needs to be on them, and they need to be held accountable for what they are doing. The public needs to wake up and see that those who are screaming the loudest about “sex offenders” are more than likely projecting and have a lot to hide. We certainly know how to identify them. So, we just need to keep a close eye on them – pay close attention to what they say and do. They eventually end up exposing themselves for who they truly are.
