Dear Members and Advocates,

We want to thank those who attended the 2024 NARSOL conference in Atlanta last week, and to those we watched the featured sessions on the livestream. Once again, it was a powerful, action-packed, three days of valuable information, networking, and planning with affiliates from across the US. During the conference, FAC held a special meeting to recognize Spirit Award members for their work and contributions. At the NARSOL Awards Banquet, FAC presented the Jeanne Baker Humanity Award to Emily Horowitz for her book “From Rage to Reason” and Gail Colletta was honored with the Lifetime Achievement award that she accepted on behalf of all FAC membershttps://floridaactioncommittee.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/FAC_Spirit_Awards.pdf.

A special shout-out goes to the FAC members who hosted and presented sessions, including “The 28 Pitfalls of a Man”, “Taking Control of Your Narrative: the Plate, the Ladder, the Circle”, “Family Panel: Talking to Your Children and Others”, and the women of “SHINE” who absolutely stole the stage. We will certainly post the presentation videos and slides as they become available.

After a brief rest, the teams quickly jumped back into action. Just to name a few initiatives, teams are in place to 1) visit FDLE, 2) increase awareness of Juveniles on the Registry, 3) Launch a fundraising campaign starting July 1 in partnership with Justice Transitions, Inc., and 4) prepare for municipal ordinance challenges.

The Legal team and attorneys on the Ex Post Facto I case have never stopped taking action, and they need your help. On March 27, 2024, Judge Hinkle in the Northern District Court of Florida issued an Order in the case of Harper vs. Glass (formerly known as Ex Post Facto II). The order required FDLE to enable persons with the “Offender” designation to report temporary addresses for travel within Florida online using the FDLE Cyber Communications System (CSS). In summary, 1) Only persons with “Offender” designation are eligible to report online; 2) Out-of-State travel requirements DID NOT CHANGE. All registrants must continue to report out-of-state travel in person; and 3) When out of state travel is reported to the Sheriff office, it is NO LONGER required to report the temporary address to the DMV.

We have prepared a survey to determine whether or not the Judge’s order is being implemented by sheriffs throughout Florida. Your timely response will help us prepare for the next case to be heard in the Southern District Court of Florida. All responses are confidential and will only be shared with the Attorneys representing plaintiffs in the Does vs Glass case (formally known as Ex Post Facto I). Go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RKY5ZX5 to complete a short survey. You can email questions to [email protected] or leave message at 833-273-7325 Option 4.

Reminder – The July Monthly Membership call is postponed until July 11 at 8pm ET due to July 4th holiday.

Stay strong and get involved – With Unity Comes Change.
