This isn’t that newsworthy except for the Deputy’s comments that registrants should be forced to remain in their county of conviction. Someone might want to remind him of the Privileges and Immunities Clause of the United States Constitution which states, “The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States.” Freedom of movement is a fundamental right and once someone is off probation there is no reason or right to restrict them.
One injustice of the Criminal Justice system is that we allow lawmakers, judges, and prosecutors to process an administrative failure as a felony with draconian sentences. Failure to register a car is minor, failure to pay tickets is minor, failure to register a sex offense is a felony, even though that information is available in muliple records. Intent to act illegally should be treated differently as an administrative error. Intent should be an element of the crime. Ten years in prison is a bit excessive.
Why do not activist organizations like NCRJ join forces with other anti-registry organizations like NARSOL, Nebraskas Unafraid, MA SOPRI, and Florida Action Committee to work a national strategy and build a larger voting block? Where is the leadership for a national movement. It is hard to imagine meaningful change moving state by state and court by court.
A national strategy would address educating the public against monsters and boogymen, change lawmakers and the criminal justice system to run on justice and not “tough on crime” agendas, feed favorable press coverage. Why not federalize standards through SMART to reduce unnecessary rules and stop intimidating other countries to enforce American laws? Germany came out and said “no” to America for a German registry, so as not to infringe on the freedom of its German citizens. Let police record criminal history (DNA, prints) and not neighbors and the public media. Companies protect personal information. Our government publishes shaming and vigilantism.

Yes we can all look at the attitudes’ of many even the chip over someone’s shoulder but the holier than thou can folks fall into the trap of legalism also. Even when I talk to my sister its like a sibbling rivalry and yes she wants to be right. Wonder why women always want to be right.. Hope the Me Too movement doesn’t come down on me. Its the sin trap of the whole understanding. Sure the blind can lead the blind in much of this registry ordeal but than someone’s gonna fall in a ditch.
So is much of this registry out of balance in many ways and yes when others corrupt, steal, or hurt others as in these sex registry ordeals, even the prison sentencing part or probational part who is justified in the end. In other words the ends don’t justify the means.

Yes the same question could be asked about address verification 4 times a year when you / I are not on probation. Name one other group of citizens who have cops come to their house for no crime currently being committed and not on probation, house arrest or conditional release?
Every time the officer comes to my house, some of the nosey neighbors come over and ask “What was that all about?” Very embarrassing, especially when he yells loud enough to be heard two streets away, “Make sure you register on time”. I mean wow. I been having to register since it was created in Florida in 1997. I am not going to suddenly forget without your input Lawman.

Yes Cherokee many can make a mountain out of a mole hill but when it comes to Justice.seems we are all looking for relief. Call it smoky and the bandit were they are the bandit and groups such as FAC and others are striving to smoke them out. Sure many of these registry issues are planned in this scheme of unjust law. For instance when I got down to the location that night in question the officer said if I hadn't came down their they would come and get me. So how does a pretend 15 yr. old drive? They knew the evil they were doing. Now years later we are all trying to seek justice.I would just like to have a job myself. Seems these credit checks are a bit much also, and with info about sex crimes via the internet info highway it all has to come to an end. I said I would never let anyone make me move. But it happened a few years back. I was at the same place for over 20 years. My Crime was over 30 years ago now with zero incidents since then, half my life ago.
Anyway I was pretty much left alone but then people on facebook got together and started posting flyers around and causing damage to my place. I ended up moving. I been at the new place for a bit but, now with the nextdoor thing, I am getting people staring more as they drive by the house. Before I lived alone. Now I live with relatives and I am concerned for them being targeted as well.

This is Indiana, actually. Sheriff Forestal used to work the sex crimes unit so he obviously has animus towards Registered Persons. He also doesn’t seem to understand that Indianapolis is a big city so that means more Registered Persons.

They are either purposely lying or do not care to study the statistics. Based on the science, we have a low rate of repeat offense. Most of us who were sent to prison were so fortunate we made it through those years without being killed.
People would ask what you were in for and I would always skirt the question. But the guards would overhear the conversation and not give a shit you were going to get your ass beat. They would yell out “Yeah he’s a sex offender”.
What I found out after getting out, when I looked up some of those bad dudes giving me a hard time, THEY themselves were in there for a sex offense. Talk about diverting the spotlight off of themselves.

Speaking of the news. Many times I will see a story and they will say
“John Doe” (Fill in a real name) a registered predator was just accused of being too close to a school and arrested”. Most times I will look them up on the registry and they are listed as an offender, not a predator.
I corrected someone in my neighborhood once calling me a predator. I said “I am listed as a sex offender but since I am not currently offending, even that is wrong”. Their response “I don’t give a $@#$ what you call it, you need to move and you are offending me, so you are an offender”.
You are better than me. That’s part of what scares me about being out in society. I’m fully disabled combat vet, I have issues from that. The registry compounds those. So I avoid everything that has other people. It sucks for my kids and wife, but it is what it is. For now.

Anyway, yes my incident was 30 years ago. First when I got sentenced, there was no registry. When I got released I was put on for an unspecified time. Then I got paperwork saying 20 years. Then it changed to 25, then life.
Did I do anything additional to cause this? No. In the past 30 years I have not had so much as a spitting on the sidewalk ticket.
I think F.A.C opened my eyes to the issue. Once lawmakers got a ruling that the registries are not punishment, they had a blank check to do whatever the Hell they wanted. It is up to us to fight it in court. The big wigs know the majority of people on the registry “Ain’t got no money”.
If it was up to “Law Enforcement and The Government”, All Sex Offenders would be Shipped to a Desolate Island somewhere in the middle of the Ocean !!!!!. It’s sad that they have that Mentality !!!

Actually, if you could hear a conversation behind the scenes out of prying eyes and ears, the opinion of many would be “Shoot the bastards”. Think that is just my opinion? Yes it is an opinion. But based on some of the things I saw and heard while employed in law enforcement, it is based on experience.
I use to pull up to crime scenes and see someone shot during a drug deal. A bunch of the guys (Officers) would be standing over the body making jokes. Granted, the person was probably not a stand up citizen, but I would expect more from officials who take an oath to protect, serve and honor the badge. The fact they would say things like “One less dirt bag we have to worry about”, is worrisome.
When I arrested someone bad and got them off the streets, It made me feel good that I made a difference in the community. I never mistreated anyone I arrested no matter how disgusting they were. I would even ask them if the cuffs were too tight. I got made fun of by other officers for not being tougher on the “scum under our feet”.
I would almost say “Let them do it” as that would SURELY be punishment, and the straw the broke the camels back. But the luck we as a group have, it would backfire. One more freedom taken away, one less lawsuit won and untold thousands of lawsuit money down the drain.
Some of these things that are happening to us are comparable to rights taken away by citizens of places like China, Russia, North Korea and others. Some of those citizens fought back and sadly, they paid a dire price for their resistance.
When he said that every 90 check ups are required on predators but they are doing every 30. Isn’t that infringing on harassment. As Florida has found in situations of numerous offenders in on location especially on probation that it is better for leo agency’s to monitor probationers than have them spread out around the county. So the Sheriff identified the problem as having a high concentration of registered folks in one place. Perhaps he should speak up as an advocate for increasing the number of places registered folks can live! So registered citizens should be mandated to live in the same county they committed the crime, perhaps near the victim? It is common sense to keep RSO away from schools where they are under the constant prying eyes of parents and teachers. It is much better for RSO to live near that remote bus stop on the outskirts of town, far away from police and parent watch groups.
When I drive through their county next month maybe I’ll make a stop at their county sheriff’s office. Ask to use the rest room. Come out and tell them hey, we and the rest of the US PFR’s left you a reminder gift in the rest room. Don’t forget who you are.
We have too many of the uneducated enforcing unwritten, un-Constitutional ‘laws’…i.e. restrictions.
