Lifetime Monitoring Bill: What happened?

Yesterday, the Senate Criminal Justice Committee was supposed to hear testimony on SB 134, the “Lifetime Monitoring Bill”.

Last week, though there was discussion on the bill, it was deferred to this week, This week however, those who tuned in to watch the hearings were disappointed to hear two hours of boring discussion on ticket sales and drones and nothing on what they tuned in for.

So what happened?

The Florida Senate Website says the bill was not considered.

As happens, bills die in committee and don’t get passed. However, before we jump to conclusions, there is still the possibility that the provisions of this bill will be tacked on to another bill that has passed and will be put through that way – or – a special committee session can still be called before next week ends. We are not out of the woods just yet.

We are monitoring the happenings in congress and will keep you informed.

One thing that happened to this bill is that the US Supreme Court has ruled that GPS monitoring is a SEARCH under the US Constitution and therefore requires a warrant! Think of it a judge would have to issue a never ending warrant for an on going search of a person for a life time – – any judge would have to be crazy to do that but that is what they would have to do to allow life time monitoring. A victory to be sure!

I thought everyone would like to see this article. One major thing to note is the amount of bail. $3200!!??? Are you kidding me? And of course, she is a female so who is surprised about the lack of publicity and the leniency. They didn’t even mention anything about sex charges which I’m sure are to follow.

    Here is the article:
