RSOL Conference in Dallas

For those who check in on our site regularly, you might have been wondering why nothing new has been posted since mid-week last week.

It’s because FAC has been attending the National RSOL Conference in Dallas, which took place this past Thursday through Saturday. The National RSOL conference is attended by most state affiliates of RSOL (Reform Sex Offender Laws) and has speakers and workshops to discuss what is working and what is not working in other states. It’s an opportunity to share ideas and learn from experts.

Among the speakers were Janice Bellucci, the California Attorney who has been successful in knocking out the residency restrictions and proximity ordinances in California and also Nancy Forster, who just argued and won the Supreme Court of Maryland case that successfully removed (or will remove) thousands from the registry. Our own president, Gail Colletta, participated in a workshop on lobbying legislators.

On this Thursday’s Member Call we will share some of what we learned during the RSOL Conference with you. You are encouraged to join the call!

My question is when will the restrictions fall in Florida? Ive owned my house for 18 years and cant live there because city ordinance say I cant live in the city limits period. They are allowed to do this as long as it is stricter than the states laws. How can this be constitutional?

FAC has a residency restriction challenge in Miami-Dade and is about to file a proximity challenge in Brevard.
