This week on Facing South Florida, Florida state Senator Lauren Book joined host Jim DeFede to discuss the call for an investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement into how the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office handled the Jeffrey Epstein case back in 2008. They also talked about the mass shootings in Texas and Ohio and whether gun laws can be changed.

They ended on the topic of abortion.  When DeFede asked her about the trend to put the most restrictive laws on the books, her stance was one that you wish she would apply to ALL issues.

Fast forward to about 10 minutes into the interview to hear comments delivered by Senator Book, such as:

“no votes about women without women”

“if we are going to make these decisions we should certainly have equal representation at the table”

“there is not one…NOT ONE …measure on the books that tells you [Jim, a man] how you should get a medical procedure but there are several that tell me and my daughter and my constituents and the people of Florida what they can and cannot do with their bodies.  That to me blows my mind!”

“when people get heated about an issue ….their emotions…as mine just did….gets to the core of who we are….”

“Until there is 50-50 representation, we should make no decisions.”

Does this mean she agrees that laws decided without equal representation, ones based on emotion, and with not one….NOT ONE…bit of research or evidence, should not have been made?

Now THAT to me blows my mind!
